Love the (Cesare) Isotta and (Vincenzo) Fraschini vehicle.

Reminded me of a (Giuseppe) Figona & (Ovidio) Falaschi ('Phoney & Flashy' - as they used to be known) vehicle...

Great names...

I know what you meant - absolutely agree with McQueen being more 60's than 50's - what I meant was that he looked 'cool' - in respect of whatever he wore.

The same way that Mike Hawthorn's bow tie got away with it but Peter Collins tea cosy didn't.

Yeah, Collins sure looks uncool in that ridiculous lid while Hawthorn looks uber cool in his bow tie. Or does he?





Both would have benefitted from some kevlar body armour, a full face helmet and a nomex suit as it happens... :cry:

Yep - he was a 'chap'. Loved the shots of him with Jack Hawkins. Don't make 'em like that any more.

When your number comes up it comes up. Whether its on the Guildford By Pass or in a hospital surgical ward which was where Mike was shortly heading.

I sat next to Stirling Moss in the restaurant at Silverstone during the lunch break of a test session 20-odd years ago. He would have been about 60. He was with two very attractive women who were less than half his age. That was quite cool.

Yes, I met Moss at Lydden Hill during the Pirelli classic marathon in about 1990. He was in the paddock with his leg in plaster from ankle to above the knee and was helping a competitor to adjust the carbs on a lightweight e-type. I commented that I'd been hoping to see him race and he replied 'What makes you think I won't be?' He was really friendly and chatty - he didn't treat me like a nobody - and he went on to set the second fastest lap time of the day in an MGB, only beaten by Paddy Hopkirk in a works Mini Cooper S. I thought that was pretty cool :)

But we all form our opinions of others from our own experience so I guess Nike has his reasons to find him uncool.

Having only once met the man at the RAC Club at Pall Mall when he tore up to the elderly commissioner, threw his keys at him and demanded he find someone to park his car for him.

He might have been having an off day and be the greatest British driver never to win a World Championship but he did not strike me as being a gentleman.

Graham Hill on the other hand was a gentleman, a bon vivant, a raconteur, a party animal, a thoroughly decent chap and a bloody good driver Cool? Probably.

In any event with personalities aside we were talking about satorial elegance and I think I was trying to say that what looks cool on someone may not look cool on someone else. Especially Blazers. Striped ones. Henley Regatta or Terry Thomas yes. Anywhere / anyone else not really.

That silver n blue 750 Monza (with the square wheel arches) looks rather neat, but it doesn't really suit it - I suppose I'm too inured with seeing primary red Ferraris.

Good point. I should add that he was wearing jeans, trainers and a baseball jacket which looked decidedly uncool.

I think it's the blue detail that spoils it. Would've looked much better in pure silver.

That's nice and 67bhp from a naturally aspirated 850cc air cooled flat twin is pretty good. I personally think the Sammio Chevaux is a seriously underrated car that could make a very light track car. You'd need a seriously modified 2cv donor to stay with that Panhard though. Ahh, here's one -
