I've always had a soft spot for the marque - a friend had several over the years. Hoped to find a cheap one a year or two ago with the intention of taking part in the Monte Carlo rally for 'historics'.

That bonnet is lovely, and I shall steal some ideas from the dash. There is some handwriting close to the fuel gauge. It looks like a signature.

Nice. I'm going to nick that recessed fuel filler idea as I'm not happy with the way mine looks at the moment. Being on a sloping panel mine looks a bit odd to me sticking up the way it does

Those rivets. Wonderful.

I'm toying with putting some rows on the outside of the Spyder, following lines where panels might meet. The plan would be to strengthen the area behind, then make a very shallow score-line (that would be just visible when painted) and then run the line of rivets beside this.

At this stage, it's only an idea. Does anyone have any views why it would be a bad one? I am aware that the rivet heads are more likely to get scuffed, but I want the car to look 50 years old when it is finished, so I am not too worried about that type of thing.

I was going to keep this little trick to myself for now, but I've bought some of these to use as 'rivets'.

I will make a note of these, how would you hold them in? Smear some bonding paste on as you push them through...
