Setting M8 steel rivnuts

16 May 2012, 11:53am
Have any of you guys tried setting M8 steel rivnuts? I just purchased some but am wondering how difficult they will be to use in practice. I have a rivnut setting tool with some fairly long handles (like Ebay item 250939743321) but I am beggining to wonder if it will man enough for the job....

You can borrow my pneumatic tool if you want Robin.

Use a suitable size bolt with a plain nut installed and two washers between the nut and the rivnut.
Then hold the bolt still with one spanner and back the nut up to the rivnut with another until it goes tight. Remove bolt. A ratchet ring spanner on the nut helps speed up things.

Thanks for the advice guys.

In the end I used the rivnut tool with long handles that I purchased for setting M6 rivnuts while building the Sportster. They were surprsingly easy to set after all that.

Cheers
