Another lurker appears!

4 Apr 2012, 12:08pm
Time for this long time lurker to reveal himself (as it were), fter some months of picking and choosing ideas from the masses on here. Got the call from Gary yesterday warning me of an earlier delivery date for my Spyder body (2 ish weeks), so it must be time to start pulling the '67 Vitesse apart.

Here's my plan which I have made as vague as possible; lots of ally in the cockpit (floors, transmission tunnel, dash etc) and.... errr.... dunno really!

Gary is moulding a Spyder for me with doors which will be as per the cordite, which we all know look a million dollars from the pictures posted here. Also having the centre cockpit divider like a D Type has. I had the privilege to drive a lynx D Type for a few days in France a while back, and that central divider makes the cockpit quite cramped, but gives you a real feeling of '50s sportscar.

Enough rabbiting, time to get on.

Welcome Len, Good to see another Straight 6 joining the fold. If you send me your location (Doesn't have to be to street level though some have) I'll add you to the Sammio Map.

:tea: Afternoon Len, and welcome to the madhouse!

Look forward to your build unfolding in words and pictures

Are you a single humper or a more select and rare two hump model? :ranger:

Hi Len

All the best with your build, it sounds like you've got some really interesting ideas so I look forward to seeing your build progress.

Many thanks to you all for the warm welcome.

The time for pondering is over and I have serious (ish) work ahead of my delivery date for the shell, but back to the beginning and the day that my '67 vitesse made its 50 mile trip home on trade plates. Never missed a beat but screaming round the M25 at 4000 RPM and just over 60 MPH suggested that I would be looking for a change of ratios somewhare.
Hopefully this link will help

http://www.teglerizer.com/triumphstuff/spit_and_gt6_specs.htm

Hope I've not put back a link that I found on here in the first place!

Wheels and tyres do a lot for ratios and my thanks to those who posted the links on tyre sizes/wheel sizes. Has anyone changed the crownwheel and pinion sizes? Like can you put a 3.65:1 crownwheel and pinion straight into a 4.11:1 diff?

Here I am worrying about ratios and I haven't even got the body off the chassis yet. It does have to come off doesn't it?

Enough again already
Len.

Funny you should mention this! After a few trips out in mine, I've come to the conclusion that I need to change my ratios as 4.11:1 with a 2ltr engine is like driving a diesel :)

Rather than messing with internals, I've just bought a whole 3.62:1 diff from Spitfire graveyard and had it delivered for a very reasonable price :) and as soon as im allowed a garage pass for a few hrs i'll unwrap and clean it and try and get it fitted before the Bath & West autojumble in a few weeks.

Is it because of the larger diameter wheels?

YES BOSS :mmph:

Roof came off last week and someone who saw it when it arrived said "blimey, you're cutting up a convertible, aren't they a bit rare". Soon there'll be more Sammios than vitesses. Resistance is futile Pat!

Will get a couple of pics up today but before the serious stripping starts, I've 2 Jaguars to finish off. Workshop looks like a bomb's gorn orff in it.

Lots of great pics and info coming from you guys on this forum and the Sammio section is always the busiest.

The lunatics are taking over the asylum!!

Stobbit!!!!!

Owners of decent original Vitesses should be thanking us Sammio types for making their cars rarer and more valuable by the day.

Additionally, mine for one would have been a death trap if I'd driven it on the road without a complete, body off restoration anyway, which would have been prohibitively expensive.

Vive la difference and carry on Sammio (ing).

I might be adding pictures now.

This might turn out to be the early stages of yet another Vitesse going under the knife.

Here goes. I suppose you just click something and the pictures appear. :eyebrows:

For a moment there I thought that was Mel Gibson in 'Chicken Run'. Then I realised it's Mike with a rubber glove stretched over his head.

You guys really do need to get out more!
