After stumbling across a Sammio on the internet last summer I was quite taken with the look and concept of the build. A little more research followed and I was convinced that I wanted to build one. Whilst on a short break in Poole it was too good a chance not to go and have a look at one in the flesh so my son and I popped in and had a chat with Gary who was busy getting ready for the Exeter Kit Car Show the following week. He showed us the green no. 6 car with Sammio on the side and also the progress on the G46 and 550 cars. Well that was it 'smitten'. This week we have obtained a 2 litre Mk2 Vitesse non overdrive for a donor so we are ready to embark on the journey.
Ha Ha! Don't worry, you're not alone. It gets to us all eventually - the need for adventure, the need to take that step into the unknown. Welcome aboard. And good choice of donor.
Great! Another 2ltr Sammio on the production line. Be sure to keep close as we're bound to hit the same hurdles. Are you going down to nut and bolt for rebuild or are you lucky enough to get a roadworthy donor that won't need it?
My 1600 six is starting to look a little underpowered
I reckon you'll be ok. It's not about the power for me, it's that spine tingling sound track. Quite applicable given my Mister Towed moniker, what what, Vroom! Vroom!

I think a complete rebuild is the best way to go as it appears to have been through a few owners all doing bits and bobs. I want to get it running first to check out engine,g/box,clutch etc. and then strip for painting and reconditioning suspension, brakes etc. I am hoping my 12 year old son will take an interest in this part of the build as well. This will be a slower build than most of you I think as lots of work to do on the house as well. Built the garage first so her indoors wants her part of the bargain sorted as well. Lol.

Whats interesting is we don't get many 'just looking' callers ....some locals from the nearby cafe who come across to look at the ''D-Types and Cobra's '' but thats all really , most people who visit , sign up eventually !!
A 2.0 MK.2 is a great starting point .....If you can , please put up some pics as even the stock donors interest us saddo's on here !!
Your plan to include your son is great - its a great way to do some father and son bonding ....don't stretch the build out too long though , cos when he discovers girls , you will be on your own !!
I have a much longer plan in mind to involve my son at some stage , but he is not even 3 years old yet , so not just yet !!
Hi, the number was on an old Morris Minor I had years ago. When the daughters refused to ride in it (no street cred) I sold it and kept the number which has been on several cars since. At the mo its on the wifes car. I will put it on the Sammio when finished as its a number from the 50s. Maybe number 7 or 77 on the roundals as well.
Hello this is David who owns car 48. I transferred my reg 37 JHY onto my car with no problem at my local DVLA in Bristol three months ago.Remember the reg belongs with the chassis and the logbook does not say reg not trensferable when you get the logbook back after the initial inspection. Hope that answers the question.
I like the dateless numbers as well.....its not going to change the whole driving experience but its just another 'period accessory' that suits the car.
Still beavering away with the diy so no progress on the sammio as yet except for collecting a Spitty tank won on fleabay. Just to add the workload the misfire on the daily driver is compression related. Why don't Halfrauds sell tins of compression I am sure it would be as good a seller as elbow grease!!!!
In the time I think it would have taken to strip the Vitesse to the last nut and bolt I have stripped the daily driver to uncover the misfire and lack of compression. A big hole in the Sammio budget me thinks !!!!!!!!!!! http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj558/vfj77/various127.jpg
