e-marked glass

hi all
does anyone know where to get side widow glass cut to size with the correct E-markings for sva/iva. I need to get the front quarter lite/ door drop glass and rear quarter lite for my dino gt replica made.

Hi ian;
There should be several suppliers that could make a tampered glass to fit your car. Some of them can fabricate homologated glass. You could ask in your area in a couple of glass companies. I did that and found one. This company not only works with cars but also with all type of glass. The glass can be cut to your size and then tampered and homologated.

I contacted a couple of auto glass manufactures only to be told different things.
Both can cut the glass to the required templates and then pass it through the heat treatment to produce the toughened glass required.
The first has told me it doesn't need to be e-marked,this is only for windscreens, and side glass falls into a different category.
The second has told me it doesn't need e-markings as even main stream cars don't have that. But it does needs to be kitemarked and also have a british standards mark etched on to the glass.
One suggestion put forward is to fit perpex for the test (iva) then change after but both the front quarterlites and rear quarterlites on the dino are bonded in.And I'd rather have glass that does what it should just to be on the safe side.
Another suggestion was laminated glass, but I can find nothing regarding fitting this.:frusty:
Does anyone know where I can obtain a iva manual or download one.

Laminated glass is NOT a good idea.
From a safety aspect, if you were trapped in the car the glass cannot be easily broken to ease your removal. Laminated glass is used on windscreens to avoid being peppered by toughened glass particles if the screen gets a hit and to just crack if hit really hard.
The Dino (original) quarterlights are opening units both at the front of the car and at the rear. If I was doing my car again then I would definitely ensure the opening types were used...
Don't know anything about kite marks and e-markings. I don't have them on my car...

IF you are going to go through IVA then you MUST have e-marks on all windows. This includes plastic side windows.

When was the last time you were trapped in a car?

e-marked glass verses british kitemarked glass

I cant find anyone who can cut and temper glass with E-marks on it. Most will cut and temper glass for auto use but it's etched with the british kitemark and a british standards number only.This was fine for sva. I've been told E-markings are for mass produce glass such as windscreens and also only those windscreen manufactured in the EU carry the E marking anyway.
If it applies to plastic as well then all dino builders are in the same boat. Unable to get passed Iva. help:frusty:

I have found a company which will manufacture to templates and more importantly has the e mark for glass! I was researching for the other half who has some knowledge and interest in the Dino :-) (he's a fabrication engineer) Im defo in his good books now!

E-mark glass

Hi all
Thanks to some superb detective work by missey and following several e-mails
it appears caldswells windows can produce cut to size glass with the revalent
e-marks in 4/5 and 6mm glass. And not only for cars.Worth checking them out.

stainless/chrome trim

I don't know if you have looked for this or you other half being a metal worker would know, but I'm trying to find some stainless steel channel to wrap around the rear quarterlite of the dino. 10mmx10mm and approx 0.6-1mm section. similar to the stuff used to wrap around the rear quarterlite of the classic mini.

You will need to find a fab shop that has a break press and they will fold it for you. You cannot buy section of those dimensions. Good luck :-)

Not related to emark glass, i have looked on line with the part nos for the rubber seals and they seem to be just as expensive as the glass, any ideas?

windscreen rubbers

Hi
You right the window rubbers are expensive. Wasn't always the case though.
Superformance used to do the front screen rubber for £118 plus the vat and the rear screen for £80 plus the dreaded. I got a complete set of quarterlite rubbers for both sides for a mere £117.00 inc packaging/ delivery and vat! I only wished I'd have gotten my front and rear rubbers at the same time:icon_sad:
There is alternative though. You can use a standard rubber that comes on a roll
as jhc and deon used but to be honest it looks crap. Have you tried re-originals an america company (I think) who do alot of replacement rubbers and seals for ferrari's?
