This is a read-only archive of the old Madabout Kitcars forum. New posts and replies are no longer possible, but every thread is still here to browse and read.
Looks good to me (in Chrome & Firefox) - layout looks good and the pages are legible
I've been looking at hosting options myself (been considering my current ISP, the fledgling build diary section here on madabout and others) and Squarespace looks interesting. Are you just trialling it at the moment or have you bought?
I've bought it. Basic package, rolling monthly sub. If it works out ok, I may look to do a yearly subscription to cut the cost down - but $13 a month isn't that expensive.
Hi Jason. I tried to look at your new site at work and had my access blocked as it was categorised "Computers/Internet;Web Hosting" I don't know if it is down to your HTML description field, if it is could you change it so I can waste my lunch hour?

I'll try Chris - but I think I may have to look when I get home. The management website doesn't load correctly at work, as I'm still using a stone-age browser (IE 6!)
The links to the next or previous pages could be further up the page before the comments section and intuitively to me seem to be the wrong way round (you have to go back to go forward in time, if you get me?)

You can take part in the build diary trial on Madabout if you want - it's free and will always be free, plus you get the benefit of thousands of visitors every day already coming to the site. It's based on Wordpress so easy enough to pick up.
PM me if interested. That goes for anyone else thinking about doing a build diary.
Thanks for trying, I'll have to look at home. It is down to the proxy server at work blocking websites that have been put into forbidden categories. Right pain in the exhaust pipe.
Right - it's now fully migrated. Any further updates will be on here, rather than the old site. I'll be transfering my domain name over, but that'll probably take a few days to shake out.
I've now added an IVA advice page specific to the sportster.
Robin, Patrick - do you want to do the same, and I'll update your pics as well?
BTW - CNAME record changed for the domain, so it's now pointing at Squarespace. It should have started propagating across t'internet....
See if you can get to the new site using the www.greatoldone.co.uk address. It may take a while - and you may need to empty your cache / force refresh the site.
Hi Jason
Well done on the new site, very useful info which I'm sure will provide a lot of invaluable advice to other builders, and very user friendly.
Particularly like the IVA hints page - I guess from my experience the only other things to watch out for are
(i) the seats and headrest height
(ii) with the convoluted Marlin-supplied exhaust system it is difficult to get the emissions correct if you have a side exit exhaust on the left hand side as its a long way from the cat.
(iii) I managed to pass with adding mudflaps on the rear wheel arches, maybe it was early days of the IVA? although the placing of the rear reflectors was more tricky.
(iv) The bumpers have now been modified by Marlin I think, I added some ali extensions to the old ones so that they were close enough to the body work - has anyone been through IVA with the new ones?

Looks good on my iPad I'm using word press on www.msposter.co.uk as well now, just upgraded to 3.3 today. My other smaller scale kit stuff also runs Wordpress: www.modelog.co.uk (shameless plug for my other site )
