Just stripping what bodywork was on my herald, and have come across a potential problem.
There is no sign of a vin plate or whatever they were called back then. There is a little plate on the drivers side on the bulkhead with a few numbers and the word GAT stamped on it, but nothing else. How will DVLA be able to identify it when it goes for it's inspection?
I have the V5 for the car, and the engine number matches, but nothing else
Any ideas??

The vin plate is on the passengers side of the bulkhead, on the vertical part by the wheel, effectively facing the pavement on the left side of the car, easy to miss.
If its not there, there will be holes or two rivets where it used to be.
If it really isint, you could end up loosing the historic status of the car.
That's where I thought it would be, but I couldn't see it. Got it all covered in a tarp now so can't have another look today. Couldn't see any holes in the bulkhead though, will have another look in a few days when the scrap man comes for my bodywork.

Here's what mine looks like, obviously it's not blurred in real life!
It was on the left side outer bulkhead under the bonnet on the same surface that the bonnet catch is on. That's a bit waffly, but you get the idea!
If you get really stuck , they can be bought for the perfectionist restorers to get that 100 point concours car......

As you guess see by the tatty state of my current one, i'll be ordering one of these shortly
I was thinking about having some plates made the same size and shape as the original Triumph ones and a similar layout , but putting THE SAMMIO MOTOR CAR CO. on them.....We could stamp your vin details on them as well.....
Might be a nice alternative once the V5c has been changed .....
Cheers Trevor, that company is about 15 miles from my home. Funnily enough I've already checked their website for parts, so will be buying my spitfire swing spring from them too.
You would think so wouldn't you, but work has bin none existent. I do have some pics of the stripped down chassis, but no idea where they are. I'll get onto it in the next few weeks, keep your eyes peeled.
