I'm sure if you posted up the fail points from the IVA test, we'd all be able to help out with some advice. Without it it's difficult to see what the problems are.
Well that one's a simple fix - the inspector will check the speed rating of the Tyre against what the claimed top speed of the car is - your mate will have put that on his IVA test application.
If it's too low for the claimed top speed, he'll either have to change the tyres, or re-state the top speed. How he goes about that, I don't know, as I didn't have an issue with that.
You can alway take a look at the IVA manual as well, as it will have all the expected standards in it.
The main point from the test is that there are too many sharp edges on the car… but his question is “what are you supposed to do about the lock nuts on the track rod ends” as they were deemed a sharp edge. On the failure notice it says: All hard parts contactable with a 100mm sphere, which form an external surface or protrude 5mm or more from the external surface must have a radius of curvature of at least 2.5mm
Additional information:
1. N.s and o.s headlamp bkts 2. N.S and o.s suspension parts, 3. Track rod end lock nuts, 4. Exhaust shields, 5. Bonnet catches, 6. Windshields, 7. Bonnet ends, 8. Exhaust bkts, 9. Mud wings 10. Wing mirrors.
Wheel arches must be ‘turned inwards’ or have a radius of curvature of at least 2.5mm
The tyres section says:
Each tyre must have the adequate speed capability (speed rating) for the maximum design speed of the vehicle
You could also use some electrica cable glands, like some of the builders in the Sportstser section have. I just used the heatshrink ones from CBS and had no issues on IVA day.
Most of the radius stuff can be got round by using rubber edging on the bodywork. It can 'fall off' after the test :-)
You'll probably also need some nut covers for exposed nut and bolt heads.
