Does anyone know where I can get a couple of master cylinder inlet adaptors for the Marlin supplied master cylinder (from a Ford P100 I think) to allow the use of a remote resevoir.

I notice from the build threads that Peter and Jason have got hold of some but I'm struggling..................

Can anyone help please.

Oh. And while I'm on. Does anyone know the thread on the taper shaft of the track rod ends. I've lost a nut and need to find a new one

I got my inlet adapters from Marlin. They were only a couple of quid.

Same here - they came with the master cylinder when I ordered it from Marlin.

I spoke to Mark and he tells me that they are standard BMW parts.

So I've had a bit of a look at RealOEM and the 3 series E21 has a remote fluid resevoir but the inlet adaptors look very different to Peter's and Jasons.

So before I spend anymore time trawling through the different models does anyone have any ideas about which other BMWs use a remote fluid resevoir.

The E30 has a remote one for the clutch.

How about this? It's down as a clutch adaptor, but it looks very similar to what I have.

Give the parts desk a ring and ask them about that part number.

I'm not convinced that this is a standard BMW master cylinder though...

This clutch part might be right but from my memory the adapter in the clutch master cylinder is a smaller diameter than the brake master cylinder.
I think maybe Mark must have misunderstood which bit you were referring too. The plastic adapters Marlin supplied me didn't have any BMW markings on them.

my advice is to drop a 'nice' email to Terry and see how she responds, as she definitely had a stock of these and supplied mine. I sourced my master cylinder myself so didn't have any expectation that Marlin should supply them FOC.
Like Robin said, there were only a few pounds.

You should also have an 'adapter' plate that fits between the Master cylinder and the servo that rotates the master cylinder to the vertical position.

I've just reminded myself they are in the Marlin price list.....

"Brake Master Cylinder Elbows (2 per car) SBMCE £3.80" (I think that is each!! )

There are a range of adaptors listed on the ATE website. I can't be sure, but I think this is the one supplied by Marlin Cars.

And that first link has some useful OEM part numbers. Looks like it is used on Fiat's and VW's...........

My son works for VW, so i'll see if he can recognise the part number...

More options than you could shake the perverbial big stick at.

I also spoke to Terry at Marlin and she is checking it out for me.

And Peter. CBS online was the first place I looked and somehow, I completely missed those stepped elbows. I've got the screw-in ones from CBS at the moment but it's a bodge job and bound to leak after a while so there's plenty of options now to get it right.

And also, looking at your earlier post Peter, is it essential that the Master Cylinder is upright and you need the adaptor plate. I would have thought that so long as the fluid level in the resevoir is higher than the master cylinder inlets it will be OK. And I've already made my adaptor that goes on the end of the brake servo push rod so I don't want to have to make another if I can aviod it.!!

OK, quick update.....
my son has checked with the 'parts man' and tells me it is a 'discontinued part' which means you can't get them from VAG parts department anymore.

If Terry at Marlin hasn't got any, I suggest you try one of the VW parts specialists listed by Jason above. Personally, I would try to get the proper ATE part rather than an elbow that might fall out or leak if not the right size.

Regarding the adaptor plate...
I don't think Mark would bother with the plate if it wasn't needed.

For anyone else looking for similar inlet adaptor, Terry Emailed me the BMW part no. this morning,

They're now on order from the local BMW dealer and coming from Germany. They should be here on Wednesday for the grand total of £2.46 each.

Well, I never did, that's not like Terry to give away her trade secrets
