I intend to treat some of the small (now rusting) areas on the chassis where the powder coat has not reached. Mainly around welds and "nooks and crannies" (Sportster owners will know what I mean...).
There are all sorts of de-rusting compounds available today. What I want is something that can be applied with a small (tiny) brush and that doesn't discolor the surrounding powder coat. If it turned the rust black it would be even better! Does anyone have any suggestions/experience of any of the many options?

PS - As a related aside. I recently visited another small kit car maker with a view to a possible future project (3 wheels on my wagon...). Shock horror - his chassis was powder coated. I explained that I had had bad experience and didn't want a chassis that was powder coated again. He told be that he never has any problems. He simply has the chassis cleaned and primed first and that seems to solve all the problems.
I am currently doing a body off rebuild on my Marlin Hunter which had quite a bit of rust behind the door B posts caused by Marlin welding the door lock strike plate mount after the chassis had been powder coated, which burnt off the powder coat, sadly they didn't bother to repaint the local area before they put the tub on! , hence the rust.
I did some searching around on the web and spoke to a few people and went with a product from http://www.bilthamber.com/corrosionremoval.html called Deox Gel this take the rust away completly and then you can use whatever paint you choose to make good the finish. It totally removed any sign of rust.
Take a look at their website they have a good product range and in all the reviews come out better than hammerite and the like.
I had similar issues with my 5EXI, I always did wonder if the powder coating was done properly, have my own views. What I would say anyone considering a Marlin chasis for a new kit car, look into having it galvanised, or if you want powder coating have it done by a company ou are able to reseach.
