Well I have only done a couple of hundred miles since painting and there are already some small marks on the lower front faces of the rear wings - I guess from stones flying up from the front tyres.
Has anyone else had this problem - and if so any bright idea's?
I did think about fitting some of those shiny plates that are sometimes fitted to the front of the rear wings on Cobra's and Sevens. Any idea's where these come from, or is it a DIY job?
The other thing you need to guard against, and it has just happened to me, is to get a stone thrown up on the underside of the wheel arch. This causes the paint above the impact point to crack. So my next job is to put some rubber sheet inside the wheel arch.
I had a few days off work this week and we took a drive up to the Cotwolds yesterday.
We came upon no less than four stretches of road that had recently been re-surfaced!
I cringed as I could hear every little blighter 'ping' off my rear wings... Aargh!
Needless to say, i've now got some protection film on order!
I think my custom made front wings help, but don't stop everything...
Well I applied the film. The instructions suggest using either soapy water or a mixture of IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol that is, not beer) and water. I ordered some IPA but in the end got impatient and used soapy water. It looks fine. You can't see the join as two famous comedians would say (sorry GOO you are to young...) Well - you almost can't see the join anyway. All I have to do now is wait and see if it works!
A bit more expensive than CBS but it came with a free atomiser with a trace of something (it says just add water) and a little piece of rubber squegee for smeoothing it down.

Did you go over the lip at the bottom of the wing or did you leave that bit exposed?

I left the lip exposed. I also didn't wrap it arround to the outside edge (the one near the tyre) - although it's supposed to stretch so you can cover a three dimensional curve I had my doubts. Assuming it works it should protect the most vunerable area. If it doesn't work then I should be able to make up some stainless or ali "spats" that cover the area.
I may also add some front mud flaps as you have. Are yours just made from ribbed rubber floor mat?
