Vag Ecu

24 Jan 2010, 4:11pm
Does anyone have a pinout of the Audi/VW/Seat/ Skoda ECU

I have number of cut wires on my ECU, and i need to know what each pin does.
Either a picture or a text list will be ok.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Hi Steve,

I can't help directly as I'm from the Marlin Sportster side and we are more into BMW's.
However, you can get most wiring diagram CD bootlegs on eBay. A quick search suggest you need something called VW ElsaWin.
If your lucky you might find someone has put one on-line but these are often difficult to find.
The other thing I can highly recommend are the Bentley workshop manuals. You need to get the right one for your engine but in addition to printed wiring diagrams (which I find are easier to digest) you get all the other information you might need.
When building my BMW Sportster, the Bentley manual became my bible.

hope that helps,

...peter

Hi Peter
Thanks for your reply.
I have Elsawin but in this case it is not being much help as it only describes the connecter, and not details of each connection, unless I havent yet stumbled on the right page.
Will look into the Bently workshop manual.

Cheers

have you tried www.volkswagen.msk.ru

That's where I sourced wiring diagrams for an AUQ 1.8t a few years ago.

Hi Steve, you're welcome to pics of my uncut loom, however I dont know how much use that'd be to you without it there infront of you to follow each cables route?

Hi Ed
Some pictures of the uncut loom might help a bit, it will help me see roughly where the cut parts of my loom actually end up.

Ive sent you a pm.
Thanks
Steve

Some more information...........
I belive my ECU to be the 46pin type.
Bently manual i have is for Golf/jetta with 121 pin ecu.
Anyone help?

Sorry to hear that Steve.

Marlin have no information as they done there race cars??

Only other option at this stage is try to eliminate the others from Bentley to the colours you already have on the 46 pin connector.

Easier option would be to go to an aftermarket ECU.

46 pin - seems far to few, even a simple ecu like Emerald has more.

is your ecu not like this?

Solved.
My big problem is I dont have the ECU here, it is currently with Marlin.
I was using Elsawin and entering my vehicle details incorrectly.
I was putting the year as 1999 X
instead of 2000 Y
Even though my donor is an X reg.
I was thinking the code was the reg. Doh.
Once I did this I saw the ECU wiring in the current flow diagrams.
Saw the ECU had a 121 pin connector. Looked on my loom again, and spotted antoher connector hidden between the engine and the rear bulkhead, out of sight. Guess what. It has alot more pins on it !!! Havn't counted them but it has to be for the ECU.
now I just have to work out what the connector is I was looking at.
I feel a bit stupid , but hey, the problem is resolved :)
Thanks for all the input people !!

Cheers

I'd guess ABS control unit, with that number of pins.

Thanks.
I will find it on the wiring diagrams now i have it.
I dont have the ABS unit so cant check, have to work it out from the connector.
Im not having ABS, so I can probaly just remove the whole thing :)

Ive also just realised something from the wiring diagram.
The ECU has two connectors.
one 81 pin and one 40 pin
giving 121 pin connector on the ECU, as per the wiring diagram in Elsawin
Can anyone confirm that is correct?
Does anyone know where pin 1 starts? is it the 81 pin connector or the 40 pin connector side?
Its amazing how hard this can be when you dont have your ECU to hand.

HI Steve.

I thought I see at some point, the connector diagram in the Bentley's manual.

If you look in the Benley's manual, pages 460 2-2 onwards might help.

Inputs on the left
Outputs on the right.
Thats clever.

Cant find a pin overview for the left and right sides yet..

I do have a haynes manual for the A3 covering the APP engine, so that may also shed some more light on the subject. :)

Confused... as to the ????????????????

I guess the ECU has been sent off to Marlin to get decoded or something.
