Rear Plate Dimensions

Can anyone remember what the size of a standard 'Euro' plate is?

I believe that's the IVA requirement, and I want to mark up for my number plate lights, which hopefully are being delivered as I type. I have the old plates off my donor car, but I'm unsure as to wether these are the correct size, due to the age.

Either 520x120mm or 340x240mm from the IVA manual.
Tester didn't check mine, which was just as well as the space was 518x120!

Thanks Chris. :thumb:

I was going to go and measure the ones on the Jag, but Having an exact IVA figure is probably better.

I had to shave 2mm off the number plate lights on mine in order to acheive the width. Well not of the lights themselves but off of the crappy ABS housing.

They normally check with a "standard" numberplate blank.

I ended up sanding down my plate, but I also moved the number plate lights outwards by cutting back the FG shell the filling in the hole from the back with a bit of fibreglass and resin.

The old plates on the donor where slightly larger that required - 522mm - I centred up this old plate, and then gave myself another 10mm leeway either side to the leading edge of my plate lights.

I've used these from CBS:

It's left me another 10ish so mil from the trailing edge of the lights to where the tub starts to cure up from the flat plate area.

Not only are they very effective at light-ening your wallet... they illuminate the plate nicely as well!

They've even got the all important Pauline stamp of approval! :)

Yeah, I thought about those for a while, but didn't know what the illumination would be like.

That and I bet the IVA man wouldn't like them as they'd be sat in the middle of the plate area.

It is a potential minefield browsing these sites at work, when you're bored... ;)

I am. Nothing to do, in between projects.

I may be leaving early today. ;)

Writing code, but it takes about 15 minutes to re-link, so some idle time and there is only so much tea you can drink.

I ordered the bits. Now I'm filling holes where the old number plate lights were fitted!.
I'm not sure if I'll use the new lights as bolts or just postion them at the end of the number plate.
I also got some 5 1/4 chromed finish wipac drive lamps. Fitted but not wired up yet.
