Interior Trim

27 Aug 2009, 7:56am
I'm putting together a list of things I need, and one of the things I need to estimate is how much vinyl I'm going to need to trim the dash, centre console and the boot closure panels.

The Vinyl supplied by Interior Seating (the company I'm getting my seats from) is 54" wide, and is sold by the linear metre (Mixed units! Yay!)

I reckon 2 metres for the dash, 1 for the centre console and 3 for the boot.

Does that sound reasonable? I know I'll need some foam backing, but I'll get that from Woolies - probably along with the carpet.

Eeeek! :faint:

I've just ordered my seats from Interior Seating - Port with black piping. I've also got matching gaiters, and I just ordered 6 meters of vinyl - it's probably way too much, but al least I'll have some extra for the inevatable stuff ups. :)

I've also ordered some nice Willans belts from Merlin Motorsports aloing with the sholder pads.

I certainly feel a lot lighter now. ;)

Well - not so light now.

Merlin have rung me to advise that I should really go for the SuperSport version of the belts with the normal style seatbelt catch, as the IVA man wouldn't like the aircraft style buckle.

Apparently the MOT testers don't like them either... Which is a shame, as I do. Boo.

Anyway - I've gone with their suggestion, but the upside is they're considerably cheaper! :)

Are the gaiters for your legs or the gearstick?:icon_wink:
What colour vinyl are you going for?
Are you going to have any carpet?
And what about the sides?
There. Loads of questions!

Burgundy Vinyl - and they're for my gearstick and handbrake. :tongue1:

I know I'd look adorable in Red Vinyl trousers, but I might get the wrong sort of attention... ;)

I'll be putting in burgundy carpets (as close a match as I can get from Woolies) along the sides and the transmission tunnel. Rubber matting in the foot / seat wells.

Are your seats IVA compliant? My Cobras with harness slots just squeaked through. The slots were too low (by a whole 1mm!) but I suggested that with my weight on the seat base there would be more than 1mm of compression and thus they were OK, and I'm certain that the tester didn't measure the height of the headrest properly, but as he passed it I kept quiet.

I cetainly hope they are, as they are marketed as such.

You can never have to much vinyl I've done my dash twice now and have now run out!

Well that's that - Interior seating has just rung me back with the final price & delivery charges (it's less than I expected - just goes to show, ring and talk to a human being rather than order on line!) and I've bent the plastic.

Now comes a six week wait.

Maybe my bumpers will turn up in that time...
...Along with my front idicators.
