I'm looking at getting my first kit car but I'm wanting a completed one as I don't have the space to build one where I live just now. I'm quite keen on 7 style bodies but I love the Fisher Fury shape as well. There's a bewildering range of 7 style kit cars out there and I need to read up on my options but what do you guys think would make a good first kit car for a newbie like myself? It needs to be cheap, I'd be only wanting to spend 3-4 grand but don't mind having to do a bit of work. Any particular ones to go for? I've seen MKs and Robin Hoods in that price range.
Welcome to the forum, if you are looking to buy one right now then your best bet would be to look for some ebay cars that are close to you and go and have a look at them, if you can wait, go and have a look at one of the kit car shows that way you get to compare loads of cars and see what the comparative quality of finish is like.
You can't really go wrong with a westie but as with most kit cars it is the quality of finish that the builder puts in that makes it a good car. There is lots of stuff on different forums about bike engined cars but for me you can't go wrong with a propper car engined car as they are built for durability and cheap to service (k-series, duratec, zetec, RV8) or even the older x-flow ford engines.
I'd love a bike engined one but I think they're generally out of my price range. I'm in no hurry at all really, this is only spurred on by the fact that my missus is getting a car for the first time so I have the option of not needing something to take us to the supermarket I've got 2 motorbikes and a car to sell to raise the cash first too which in the current economic climate could take a while. I'm not looking for something lightening quick but having a more modern engine is quite appealing. The main thing is the handling as I'll be using it on track but I guess all the 7 style cars have entertaining handling? (entertaining is more important than quick as I'll be doing track days, not racing!)
