Megasquirt & GOOSter Kompressor

Ran across this in my lunchtime tinternet wanderings, and as I know some of you are planning MegaSquirt conversions later on, I thought I'd link it (even though you probably have already found it)

Also - I know I haven't got the car on the road yet, but I was watching Overhaulin last night (dangerous, I know) and they dropped a supercharger into a Dodge Magnum, and boy did it sound good. I love the sound of superchargers...

Which leads me to wonder if I can 'charge the GOOster when she's done. It strikes me as easier than turbo charging, as there's less pipe work involved, and the Marlin exhaust takes up a fair bit of room already without Turbo manifolds etc.

Any thoughts? I've found a company in Northampton that manufacture a small centrafugal blower, but's it's not in production just yet...

And I've seen small SC kits for E36 / M50 and the like... but nothing directly for the E30 / M20...

A pipe dream? Perhaps. But it'd be fun! :)

I found a wealth of info on this website:

The man to talk to about megasquirt on the M20 and forced induction is Ant @ A-Tech: http://www.fastbimmer.co.uk/

He does a supercharger conversion for the E30 with a centrifugal super charger from Rotrex. There a few DIY projects out there using the M60 or M90 Eaton screw super charger but they're quite big.

The only thing I can see being a problem is the intercooler, not much room for it. You would either need some kind of water cooling or run without one.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I don't want to spend so much cash on megasquirt/conversions and will probably find some kind of V8 option in the future.

I do keep an eye on ebay for superchargers going cheap though ;) :D

Damn. :(

Ah well. One thing at a time. :)

Thanks Pete. I think I'm parking this idea for now - I had another google session on it last night, and just got lost... I can't seem to find just how big a blower you need for a 6 cyl BMW engine.

To be honest, just a small increase in power would be nice - nothing dramatic. It's all about the sound it makes in my mind... :D

Hmm 200 HP is a nice round figure.

Mind you, the Sportster goes like the clappers with the bog standard 170 HP. I still haven't given mine the full beans yet - I need to find a nice quiet drag strip (dual carriageway)....

It's almost worth sticking to N/A if only want a modest increase. I'd estimate that my rebuilt 2.8 will have around 200bhp but I've got quite a number of bits on it such as BBTB, 6 branch, 272/282 cam, M52B28 crank and a ECU chip for the motronic. I really much get it on a dyno someday see what it's actually doing - I don't know how much power it lost over the hears. The head is a tad tired but I didn't want to spend massed getting everything replaced.

Get rid of the passenger seat?

I think the whole forced induction idea is a non starter - now that I know how much grunt Vikki has, I think she's ok as she is. :)

Th only viable solution would a low boost super charger and no intercooler or using a heat exchanger to cool the air using coolant from the engine. That way you main rad at the front takes care of the extra cooling :)

that doesn't work, it works well as a heater though! If you have a charge cooler then you HAVE to have a seperate cooling system for it

Ahhh I didn't realise that they use a separate cooling system.
