Question.

Has anyone fitted a clutch assist spring to their build?

I am sure one of the Cabrio builders did. I seem to remember he also cut n shut the BMW pedal box though and used that instead of the somewhat less robust Marlin one.

If I was starting again I would also use the cut and shut method. Had nothing but problems with the Marlin pedal box, it's needed a lot of modification to get it an acceptable strength / design.

My local garage man also reckoned the pedal box design was somewhat questionable, as the rod linking the brake pedal to the servo is too short, and thus prone to go off at an angle. On mine it has bent the servo rod (probably as a result of the extension pin jamming), resulting in total brake failure....
Sorry, didn't really answer the original question, but no, I haven't fitted a clutch spring.

I fitted the BMW 'helper' spring mechanism from my 525i donor to my Cabrio and it works a treat (the pedal loads are reduced significantly when the pedal is fully depressed). I had to convert my pedal box for the hydraulic clutch and decided to utilise the helper spring at the same time (I copied the instalation geometry from the BMW).
