Top Tip - BMW M20 Oil Cooler plate thread size and adaptors

1 May 2009, 3:13pm
Guys,

I've just had to rotate my oil cooler take off / filter plate 180 degrees to clear my exhaust, only to find that the existing BMW hard pipes that bolt into it that my flexible lines where pipe clamped too hit the steering column.

As I had the pipes off, I measured them up, and they're M22 with a thread pitch of 1.5. By happy coincidence, this is exactly the same size as some adaptors from Merlin Motorsport, for use with Setrab oil coolers. They do a variety of different ones, for different unions to bolt on.

I ordered a couple of these:

Along with two of these:

and then pipe clamped my flexible hoses to the unions in the same way I had the original BMW pipes. And it works a treat. It all fits great, and the lines are now well clear of the steering column.

Cheers,

Jason
