Well it passed first time, even the headlights were OK!. The emmisions were well within the limits so it seems the engine is running OK.
Initial impressions:
VERY quick
VERY windy although the goggles were great
Brakes feel a bit indifferent although the MOT tester said they were fine. I suspect it's a combination of me being used to over assisted modern cars and the fact they need to bed in a bit.
Racing harnesses are a PITA!
The first drive is always an enjoyable, if slightly cautious event.
I'm genuinely curious why you put the car through an MOT, and come to think of it, how it could be put through an MOT if unregistered? Did you just put it through a mock MOT for peice of mind?

When I had an MOT done before the SVA it was for piece of mind - and to check engine emissions - before a longer drive to the SVA centre. They picked up a screw I forgot to do up which was good. They MOT'd it on the chassis number

MOT can be done using the chassis number. It was for peace of mind but also....
I have read somewhere that some DVLA offices insist on an MOT even with the SVA certificate.
MOT checks engine emissions and brake balance both of which are needed for the SVA and are difficult to test yourself.
It is re-assuring for someone else to go over the car when you have been building it for 4 years. It's easy to forget to tighten something up.
My local garage is only a few miles away. SVA station is over 20 miles away. I know which I prefer for a first run!
I had great fun driving to the the SVA. No number plates etc.
Got pulled over by the police!
They asked what running gear I had. I said Rover. they started laughing. Until I told them it was a 2.0 turbo (I felt like saying and leaving your T5 Volvo for dust). But it wiped the smirk off there face.
