Today at Taunton VOSA test centre, at 12:00, another Marlin Sportster passed it's SVA test.
Very friendly bloke did the test and was very thorough.
The only issues were headlight aim, front mudguards only just covering the outside edge (which I've now fixed) and an embarrassing moment due to me not replacing the fuse for the speedo.
The speedo was also way out, reading over 10 Mph slow.
I've used a new electronic Smiths speedo which you can calibrate by measuring the rolling distance of tyre, doing some calcs, divide by number of pulses produced by the driveshaft bolts.
This number came to 5150.
In the end (after 4 attempts with ever increasing numbers) we ended up with 6000.
The speedo is still a little slow, but thats okay, it'll keep the licence cleaner.
I just want to say that although I haven't been a big contributor to this forum, I want to extend a big 'Thank you' to all you guys for your help and advise.
A Marlin Sportster is a challenging project to undertake, and I for one would rather the challenge than a simpler build.
Although the car isn't finished yet, getting through the SVA is a big hurdle.
It would have been harder without you guys.
I got a nice letter from those nice guys at DVLA.
My new number is 'H138NRU'.
So straight to Halfords for a shiny pair of plates and a tax holder, and we're on the road!!!
I don't care how cold it was, the first drive was terrific.
I must setup the steering though. It's a little twitchy over 40mph.
Otherwise, fine and dandy.
