many thanks to everyone for their hints and tips with special thanks to John (from Warwick), Patrick, Stuart, Robin, Andy, Simon and Simon (at Marlin). Your well documeneted websites, posts, discussions,etc really helped me cover all the issues.
I had a close shave on three issues. My speedo calibration was no good and was reading too low (a definate fail) but while we waited the 11 minutes for the exhaust gas analyser to warm up, Dave (the SVA examiner) let me do a two minute run at 60mph on his calibrated rollers which let me re-calibrate the Autometer speedo. It was then retested by Dave and it was absolutely spot on at all speeds! What a decent bloke for letting me do that!
The next problem was a minor fuel leak from the top of the tank. Dave thought it was that I had over-filled the tank last night so 'gave me the benfit of the doubt'. I'll double check it anyway when I take the car apart for painting.
The last point was that one of my rocker switches edge failed the radius spec. He suggested that I swapped two of the switches around so that he offending switch was in the exempt area near the steering wheel which I did there and then. He also recommended I put a heat shield around the brake pipes as they might get a bit warm.
Otherwise, no issues, so I have my MAC !!!
Now off to arrange the registration inspection...........

Here's just a couple of pictures, Pauline took from her car. her car was stacked full of tools and parts, just in case.
We set off at 6.35am for the test start at 7am. We waited about 10 mins before Dave the tester came out. If you look closely you can see my temp tonneau cover made of polythene as showers were forecast. Luckily the rain stayed away for the drive to the test.
This is a contraption they called Nigel. It is used to check that the seats, seatbelts and steering wheel are all at the correct heights to each other. They could have checked the windscreen as well, but I don't have one yet!
After the outdoor inspection of the exterior and interior, you drive the car to three stages inside. At the first they test the speedo and exhaust emmisions, the second (shown here) is steering suspension, lights and underneath. You can see me sitting in the car to operate the controls. The last stage is the brake test rollers before moving outside for a test track brake test, sound test and finally the mirror test.
A great day after 4 years 2 months from chassis collection day.

No I won't be at Newark as I still need to register the car,
I am hoping to get that done in the next few weeks.
But I am hoping to be ready to go to the Uxbridge Autoshow.
This is not a Kit car show but is usually a good day out with everything from Ammerican cars, hot rods and Morris 1100's with polished hub caps!
Plus autojumble, trade stands, small fun fair for kids, ete etc
Usually a few Kits plus real Lotus 7's plus every kind of car you can think of.
This is a charity event organised by the Rotary club.
Uxbridge is pretty easy to get to from the M40 or M25.
Anybody else fancy a day out?
If you want to enter your car for judging (You get to drive round the parade ring!!) entries have to be in by the 14th July.

I'm off for my DVLA registration inspection tomorrow, so still hoping to be registered in time for the Uxbridge show. Anyone wanting to bring their car into the show ground should send off for a ticket now. It's £5 in advance or £10 to get in on the day.(see website for details)
I just hope it's not chucking it down too much tomorrow
It was off to the DVLA at Borhamwood this morning, to have the vehicle identity checked before the registration process can be completed. It is legal to drive your car to and from the MOT and SVA tests but it is illegal to drive to the DVLA office. I used a guy called Mel from flyingbluedog to trailor the car to and from the DVLA office. Excellent service and highly recommended. Look closely and you'll see the plastic tonneau that I used for the drive to the SVA was used again. Whilst this was hastily made the night before the SVA it is now neatly stored in the boot for any future outings before I get my hood.
Nearly there, just need to wait for my registration doc and tax disc!
If you see a cloud of dust over West London it will be me on my way down to Halfords to get my number plates!!!!
My registration documents arrived today, so it was off to get my plates and out for my first drive!
Full marks to Borehamwood DVLA who processed the paperwork last Thursday and even updated the MOT Cert with the new reg number.
