Anybody got an old 15" wheel knocking about they don't want/need?

I tried a secondhand thinner tyre on one of my old 14" rims but it still won't fit under the spare wheel GRP moulding.
Any old rim, steel or alloy, so long as it is 15" diameter, 4x100 pcd and 57.1mm bore size.

I'm not fussy about condition so long as it's round and still holds air. It'll only be used as a 'get you home' spare.
Anything considered, with or without tyre.

Anyone for some excellent condition 14" genuine BMW steel wheels?

I've kept my eye open for VAG group 4 stud spare wheels but so far all I've found are 14's! I think they'd have to be 6J or less to fit under there.

Maybe we could group buy a set of polo 15" alloys? Only 4 builders needed!

So what's the problem - is it that the wheel cover won't fit over anything sensible? I dropped one of my Alpina's into the spare wheel well and it seemed to fit fine - but then I don't have the cover (yet).

I saw one Sportster at least at Stoneleigh with a soft spare wheel cover (like you get on a 4x4) Perhaps this is a simpler solution although it doesn't look as good.

With my wheels 205/60/R15 on 7J rim I have a 4 - 5 cm gap when I drop the cover one. I suspect Peter will probably be similar.

I have similar problem same size wheel and tyre as patrick and cover has 4cm gap when fitted i couldnt find a spare to fit under the cover so i am using a leather cover at the moment until i resolve the matter.
If you guys are getting together to buy a set of four to split up then i would certainly be interested in one.

I've got to the stage in my build where I'm looking at spare wheel covers:

I couldn't stomach the £100+VAT that Marlin want for their cover (or the inevitable long wait for it to turn up) so I've decided to try and adapt one from a Honda CRV instead. These come up for sale fairly frequently and cheaply on Ebay and look to be alot deeper than the Marlin cover. I'm expecting the cover to arrive later this week & I'll let you all know how I get on!

Last weekend I tried one of my steel 14" rims witha 175x70 tyre.
Still a 2cm gap all round. Basically, with a 14" rim it doesn't fit over the hump in the middle of the rear tub.
I reckon it was designed around a 15" Ford wheel.

I think we are looking for something like a 15" 5.5J wheel with a 190 or less tyre.
Sounds like the idea of a set four Golf or Polo wheels might be on with me, Patrick and Stuart. Just need to twist Robin or Jason's arm and we can go for the group buy idea!

im happy to go with anything as long as they fit and of course are a resonable cost.

Say, up to £40 each? (S/H tyres are £15-20 round here)
If they don't fit we'll have to re-list them on eBay. Those RA's posted above might be a bit rare and attract a silly bid?
A set of old steel ones would do, but nobody seems to list any. Probably just get scrapped?

I suppose steelies in 15" on that generation and size of car would be rare like you said. I've got a set of steelies but they are 5 stud

What's the issue with the spare wheel? Is it just absolute diameter with the tyre?

I have 5 15" original fit BBS wheels that I've had refurbd for mine...

As I understand the cover is not deep enough - so its the width of the tyre that is the problem

That's correct. The problem is finding something that fits under the Marlin supplied GRP cover.
I think you need a 15" rim with a 190x70 tyre or less, hence the search for something a little slimmer.

Just a thought.

Problem with those is that they are mostly 14" and so won't sit in the tub properly. I do wonder if the small width will still allow the cover to go over.

Still watching these BBS RA's but I think the price will exceed our £40x4 target.
These are less atrractive but might 'fit the bill'.
