Size wise I have heard from many that 17" is probably too big.
I was at one point considering 16" at the rear and 15" at the front, but an keeping to one size due to the price advantage & 15" is obviously cheaper.
Personally I'd go the 15 / 16 route, and take the cost on the chin. It's the way I'm expecting to go, once I've changed the suspension and double checked clearances.
Mine new wheels are 15X6.5, PCD 4x100, 195/50/15. Will check the ET today. But going by the Rover wheels, would guess at ET42 to bring the wheel in a bit. Will check though. And look like there would have passed the SVA
For the SVA I used the Rover turbo wheels. Rover seem to be the only ones to that do this size with this ET. 6X15, PCD 4X100 with 195/55/15 with ET45.
Having 195/50/15 will make the speedo under read a bit. So at 70, it will read 68. So this should be ok for SVA.
So et45 will bring the wheels in under the arches more than et35???
No it's the opposite. For example. I'm pretty sure my new wheels are offset ET38 ie 38mm offset. The rover had an offset of ET45. But the rover wheels were 6" and my new wheels are 6.5". If they had the same offset et45, then my wheels, because there .5" wider, would stick out. So I played with the offset to bring the wheel in.
To my mind, the bigger the offset, the nearer the hub face is to the OUTER face of the wheel. Thus a 6" rim with a ET35 offset will be 10mm further out, than a 6" rim with an ET45.
I'm presently looking to go for an ET45 16" x 7" rim with a 215 /40 on the rear, but need to be a little more certain than I currently am, that this will fit without rubbing any components on the inboard side.
I'm experiencing no issues with a 15 x 7 with et35, fitted with a 195 / 50.
You have a slightly wider wheel than me. But have a offset of 35 rather than mine (at a guess 38). Which means yours 3mm more offset than mine. But your's is 0.5" wider. So would mean yours are slightly more towards the hub than mine.

Nope, my wheel is offset less, thus the 3mm is ADDED to the 0.25" extra width either side of the centreline.
7" / 2 = 3.5"
3.5" = 88.9 mm
88.9 mm - 35 mm = 53.9 mm (distance of outer edge of wheel from hub face)
6.5" / 2 = 3.25
3.25" = 82.55 mm
82.55 mm - 38 mm = 44.55 mm (distance of outer edge of wheel from hub face).
Therefore my 7" rims, if I've been correctly informed and they are ET35, protrude from the hub face 9.35mm more than the 6.5" wheel with ET38.
The rule of thumb is that a tyre should be no more than 1.3 times as wide as the rim, so with a 6.5" rim you'll be okay up to a 215 section tyre. Plenty enough scope I'd have thought.
