Spare wheel size

16 Feb 2008, 5:58pm
Does anybody know what size spare wheel fits under the wheel cover?

I sorted out the best of my old BMW donor steel wheels and painted it, only to find today that it doesn't fit under the cover.

It is a standard BMW steel 14" rim with a 195/65R14 tyre fitted. It is too deep for the cover becuse it hits the flat surface of the cover as it is a smaller diameter than the curves in the cover.

Maybe a 15" or 16" rim and tyre might fit better? Or maybe I need to get one of those silly spacesaver spare wheels, which may not be such a bad idea as it would be less weight? :D

Anybody know whether BMW fitted 15" or 16" steel wheeels to the e30 hubs?

205/60/R15 doesn't by a good chunk! Shame the space saver in my coupe is a 5 stud as the would probably go under there.

The wheel needs to be at least a 15. I have a 14" bottle top but it won't go over the bump.

BBS wheels came on a lot of E30 in 15" format. Alpina did 16" wheels but not easy to get a hold of (they do look good though!).

If you were feeling very lavish you could get a set of wheels made by Image with a matching space saver!
