Registration possibilities

21 Jan 2008, 4:38pm
I have had alook through the forums but couldn't find an answer, though I'm sure its in here somewhere - so apologies...

I am building a Ginetta G27 which has a 2002 engine/grearbox and the chassis is a Ginetta one built in about 2000. Assuming that I don't need a Q plate, which seems to be the case with all the Ginettas that I have seen what age registration could I have - it won't be road ready and SVA checked until at least September 2008. Would this mean I could have a xx58xxx plate or would it have to be a plate older than the date of chassis manufacturer?

(I really want a xx08 OND plate cos my surname is Bond  )

Thanks in advance

Hi

You won't get a new reg number plate unless the kit is built entirely of new parts and you would have to back this up with receipts. The fact that you've got a 2002 engine would mean the best you could get is an 02/52 reg. Thats how I understand it anyhoo.

If you register your car on an age related plate (ie 2002) I don't think there is a problem transferring a "Cherished Number" to you car as long as it is older than the date of first registration. So you could buy a reg such as A**8OND for your car.
If you go down the "Q" plate route, you cannot change the registration.
