Hi
wondered if anyone had experience of setting up the headlight alignment. I know you really need a garage with the right equipment for accurate alignment, but my problem is a bit more basic. I have a nice pair of black background angel eyes lights I got through Marlin. I'm very happy with them, but they only appear to have one adjust screw on the back that seems to do left/right alignment only. Is this normal? I really need to adjust one downwards and I don't know how. I hope it's not just as crude as just moving the whole light in the bodywork? this would not be too easy the way I've fitted them!
My lights were different to yours but would have thought they would have come with at least two adjustments (horizontal/vertical). Mine came with 3 adjustments on big long adjuster bolts.
Hmmm. I got some adjustment bits from Marlin (just a few screws and unusual washers - a lot less than £20!) but I seem to remember them saying later that the newer lights came already with adjusters fitted. Maybe they just meant the left/right screw. Ah well. I'll give them a ring next week but try and sort something out before anyway for SVA on Monday...
Well, I had a trip out last wednesday night to the petrol station so it's already been up to a rather nervous 60 mph... Amused by the bunch of scallys at the station "eh mate, where the f*&ks your number plates?"
I was supposed to be at SVA last Thursday but a loose gear change linkage conspired to defeat me - I'd worked through the night sorting a few odds and ends after the fuel trip and was knackered. When I jumped in to set off to Shrewsbury at 6.00am I suddenly found reverse gear missing! It took me 2 hours of stripping and checking the reverse lockout system before I realised a shift cable had moved slightly... I put it down to tiredness, but by then I'd missed my SVA slot. Would have been a great day for the drive on Thursday too. The forecast for Monday is wet... some tarpaulin and gaffer tape may be called for
Anyway - although on a first drive all you can do I think is wonder what all those strange noises might be, it felt pretty awesome. I never opened it up to high revs, but just a touch on the throttle was an eye opener! I think I'll take it easy to SVA on Monday, and then as long as nothing major is found I can try it out a bit more on the way home... It's 50 miles each way so a good run. Must remember to fill up with fuel before setting off home!
In regard to your lights, you may despite the adjusters still need to move the lights, I did, and I like you got mine from Marlin. They sold me some adjusters, Ibelive if memory serves they were genuine Pergeot, or Citroen parts, I understand the lights are desgned for electric adjusters.
Anyway, if like mine looking at the back of them you can see a hole about the size of a 10p piece, thats the adjuster hole, where the part would sit. The Marlin supplied part, should you buy if needs modifying, it should seem apparent if you get it.
My suggestion here, and I am sure I have seen if somewhere, is make up a disk to cover the hole, if you have some perhaps 5mm + thick metal drill a hole in the centre, and tap it, maybe an M6, and hold it in with 2 of 3 self taps. With the bolt this in itself will have the same effect as the adjuster, have to say wish I had done this myself.
