I'm getting some custom dials sorted to re-range the rover instruments for the honda drivetrain - higher speed, more revs :-)
I like the uncluttered look of a purely mph speedo; does anyone know if a kph ring is compulsory for SVA? The "March 2004 draft" that knocks around on the internet makes no mention (only emphasise must show mph) but I've seen other discussion that may disagree. I'll call them tomorrow if nobody knows...
I dont recall any discusion over MPH when my sva was done, although I used the standard rover dials, the only issue was accuracy. I know this sounds a bit boring, but would it be worth useing rover clocks for sva, and leaving the wires extra long, to alow mods later.
I am sticking with the Rover clock mechanisms, but changing the faces. Rover standard throughout isn't an option because the type-r transmission will give an incorrect speedo signal, and the tacho would read off-scale :-)
I've got electronic ratio controls wired into the feeds to both the speedo and the tacho so I can tweak them up and down 1% at a time to get the range right and the accuracy within spec. It's just the face designs to finalise now, hence the mph/kph conundrum!

I no on imported cars that they are only in KPH they still pass the SVA, not sure if this is the same on UK kit cars, but i have a lot of mates with only KPH, so it may be that you can have a car with only MPH. Best thing would be to ring the SVA Station you are taking it to and ask them. Our clocks are all new the rover ones are going but using ETB ones, looks better plus it goes up to 200mph and 12000 on the revs, but they aren't cheap.
Ta Jon. Been trying to ring a couple of SVA centres today actually but whenever I was free there were no inspectors available. I'll post again when I know the answer.
I'm surprised people have passed with KPH only - as far as I was aware that's a big no-no - just see how many companies are out there offering MPH conversions for importers to get cars through SVA (though I think a sticker on the glass counts!).
