engine/trans/suspension clip welded to rear of a fwd car

Does anyone know if this can be done? Any links to info on someone who has done this? I am talking about taking a whole front clip with suspension engine and transaxle and welding it into the rear of a fwd car. Of course the steering would have to be locked. But what else am I missing here?

If I'm understanding you correctly it's something that's been quite common in Autograss racing over the years. I don't get the fwd reference though 'cos surely the resulting car would be RWD??

In 1967 Bernard Cox did it with the Cox GTM, followed by (amongst the more well known) Fiat's X1-9 and Toyota's MR2 as well as GTM's Rossa, K3, Libra and Spyder, Sylva's Mojo etc etc.

rear drive mid engine formerly a fwd setup

Hi,
I want to convert the fwd to a mid engine rear wheel drive with the fwd engine trans suspension.
I have heard that the Toyota mr2 is essentially a fwd setup put in the rear. I guess that is what I want to do.

But I want to take something like a honda civic and cut out the front suspension engine trans and weld it into the rear of the car. It would make it rwd and I guess a mid engine sort of.

MGF is basically two Metro front subframes with the K series in the back one!! :eusa_doh:

Hmmm..... and didn't Rover and Lotus engineers visit GTM for a peek at the K3 prior to the development of the 'F' and Elise?????

Sounds fine to me. That's exactly what GTM did with the Mini-based Coupe & Rossa and the Metro-based Rossa K3. The Libra and Spyder use the engine/transmission, but do away with the rather heavy subframe.

why dont you just drive the car everywhere backwards? :eusa_dance:

Actually, this is something I'd done, on paper, with a Pug 205. Although I'd rather put the v6 from a Vectra into the rear of a Tigra, then you'd be able to show off the bugga under that great glass boot. Add wide wheel arches F and R, and instant RWD fun. :cool:
