Registering Ameture build project?

22 May 2004, 6:55am
I am just about to embark on an adventurous project and I need to get some information on how I stand with the registration (DVLC) side of things.
The project will be a space frame type frame using the complete running gear from a rolled and written off 2002 honda civic type R.
Because I am using all the parts from the honda (Engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, etc) is there any way of getting an age related number plate (02) or will it be "Q" plated.
I ask this because I cant get an answer from DVLC.

Hope someone here can help

As long as you keep the registration doc, chassis plate and all the numbers (engine /chassis) match up you should have no problem getting an age related plate come SVA.

Thanks for the reply,

Unfortunatly i do not have the Reg documents or chassis plate as it was a write off from a scrap yard. I do have the chassis number because it is on the bulkhead section that we front cut. Also have the matching engine number.

Using the Engine, Gearbox and suspension, you should quailfy for an age related plate on the donor points system. However you do need the donor V5 to do this. You can apply to DVLA for a V5 on the Vin # you have, But you could run into difficulties if it has been logged as Scrapped/Written Off. Otherwise it is a Q plate.
