5EXi/-R Build Costs

16 Apr 2007, 9:24pm
Just interested if anyone out there is keeping an eye on what sort of money is being spent on there project, I know most people say too much but just added up what JNRacing has spent so far and I was shocked. I know our car is a race car but still be nice if it wasn't just us that have reciepts alone adding up over 10k, when only having 40% of the car complete and still a lot of large items and bills to pay, (mainly out of our choice though).

Yep - keeping tabs on everything, as it's a 50/50 venture.

Suffice to say, my tally is well beyond £10k, and will be nearer £20k by the time it's done...... if that is a kit is ever "done".

yeah I was keeping tabs until a few months ago but lost interest...I have kept every receipt though and will tally at the end but so far I am probably sitting at about 19-20k :faint:

But I still have loads to buy and a good spray job will be about 3k so not sure what end build cost will be????

I have over 250 receipts though some items have been bought 2 sometimes 3 times ie basta*d brakes :frusty:

I have a funny habit of not really trying to sell the parts I dont need either

Wow, Marlin reckon it'll cost £9k

Scary, but I reckon mine will be just above that figure.

If that's a serious comment, and not tongue in cheek, like I think a fair few above are, then that's pretty good going.

The problem, if it's right to say problem, with the Type-R build is there are a number of costs Marlin don't publicise much. For starters, my driveshafts cost more than I can pick up a K-series for! Pretty amusing, when you consider the complexity of an engine v's a pair of steel rods! Marlin also don't sell the Type-R kits as well sorted as the k-series kits (from what I can tell). If I had attempted to build my car using what Marlin supplied, it simply wouldn't work!

My car is chassis No5.

The K series spec has improved since then.

Honestly, I have bought / sourced / made things other than getting many parts from Marlin in order to keep the costs down as much as possible.

The final cost should be less than £10k. If I had bought everything from Marlin and paid retail prices this would easily be nearer £15k
