Like Patrick, I've been spending too much time on eBay.

I've been pretty successfull selling some of my surplus gear, but now look at what I've gone and bought!

Yeah, looking at Toyo Proxes T1-R 225/40ZR16.
According to their website they are suitable for 9 inch rims.

They say these are 234mm wide. Do you think they will fit?

They also do a 245/45ZR16 which may be more compliant but are 244mm wide which may cause problems sticking out of the wings? They are also a slightly larger diameter (+20mm) compared to the 40 profile.

Anybody else got any other tyre manufacturers suggestions as I have limited knowledge in this area?

I've been told that Goodyear Eagle F1's are good - similar tread pattern to the Toyo's, and quieter too.

I'd have to agree with the Eagle F1 GSD3's a very nice tyre. Excellent grip in the dry. Good the in wet. But they do wear quicker than other due to the soft compound.

Other good ones to look at that I've used in the past:

Bridgestone S03 - as goods as the F1's IMO but better in the wet, hard to get these days.

Bridgestone RE720 - excellent in the wet and also good in the dry - these are on our Sportster

Bridgestone 050 - imo not as good as the S03's but will do as subsitute - will be going on my daily driver once I wear through the F1's I have on the back to match the front.

(tyres to avoid Pirelli P6000 - ok in the dry, rubbish in the wet and wear out quick. Dunlop SP 2000 Sport, loud and not brillant.)

Before you splash out on tryes I would very carefully check if they will fit under the wings. The 225/16's on my 8J Alpina's were touch and go when I did a trial fit - certainly an over zealous SVA man might have failed them....

I was thinking of going for a narrower tyre or even changing to 7J's at the back.

That's a good point Robin.

I plan to have a good measure up with just the bare wheels fitted and the body work before commiting to 4 brand new tyres.
The Toyo website is very usefully and gives you the actual width of their tyres which surprisingly is diffrent to the tyre size?
I have another set of 15" alloys with 205/50/15 tyres (cheap Nankang's ??) that I might use for the SVA if the 225's are a bit too wide.:

I have 7J wheels all round and have fitted Goodyear F1's 225/50 x 17 they fit perfectly under the rear arches and miss the inner bodywork by aprox 1 cm.

that can be true.
Be careful. I have a 205 tyre on a 7J rim and the width is 225 maximum. In my situation I have 18mm inside space (between tyre and GRP). Outside I haven't measured to the panel yet.

I use this site below now to see what's possible and therefore its easy to see that another brand and type give an other ideal rim for it. Changes are big I must say.

Is it true that the widest width you can measure on your tire is 9.2 inch (234mm)?
