Registration plates / custom plates

Assuming all my paper work is in order and I can keep the donors F plate on my Sportster what are the rules/regs for a custom plate?

I'd quite like to get an none age specific one with two letter and several numbers for example - like these: http://www.newreg.co.uk/search/dateless_registrations.html or the Irish plates.

I believe it can't show the car newer than original reg - eg F plate car can't have H1SPR.

Other than that you buy a reg available & apply to transfer it to your car.

you'll only keep the original plate if you use the original chassis.

If you use enough of the donor you will get an age related plate.

In both these cases I believe you can put a "cherished" plate on after required fee and transfer as long as it doesn't make the car appear younger as ex-biker said.

If you dont use enough of the donor you'll get a Q plate and I don't think these can have cherished plates.

Just my 2 pen'orth and my understandings best thing is to check with the LVLO/DVLA

If I've read the rules correctly, I'm using enough major bits of the donor to be able to qualify for an age related place, I have the V5. That's good news thanks chaps :)

Very true my friend - if you get issued a 'Q' plate then you are stuck with it and unable to change it. If you have an age related registration you can change it as long as has been said not later than the age related mark. Then that's four pennies worth!:yo:
