Type R Demo For Sale

4 Mar 2007, 7:28pm
Hi All...

Just browsing the Marlin site and the blue type R demo is for sale (£22K ish!)...seems too soon to be selling this.....don't know if they need the cash to fund the new premises or if there's an even better demo car in the making??

mmmm......I reckon that my regular 1.6K must be worth about £14K based on that figure.

Any thoughts?

Personally I can't see anyone paying £22k for it.

Whilst building a 5exi-R to a high standard could well cost a similar amount, I can't imagine many kit cars fetch anywhere near what they cost to build.

I don't think my car, if I ever sell it, would sell for anywhere near how much I'm funneling into it. In my mind every penny that I put into the kit car I've written off - if cost and resale were an issue, I wouldn't be building a kit.

Incidentally where's the fun in buying a pre-built car? Might as well buy a VX220 / Elise?

Someone may buy it, as its a cheaper Javan R1 by a fair bit, but still a large price for a kit car.

Where do marlin get there power figures from? 320bhp? whats that all about?
5 Mar 2007, 6:29pm
Its power to weight ratio,

power in bhp, divided by the total weight of the car, multipled by 1000, equals bhp per tonne,

thats what I was told to work it out, its about the same power on paper then as the porsche 996 turbo,

Jon, I know what it is my point was thats what it should read! but it doesn't it says power train produces 320bhp bit misleading

Arh sorry craig misunderstood, is a bit misleading but thats sales for you, makes it sound better than what it actually is.
