Hi guys and girls. At last I am back. I would imagine there a lot of you out there thought my build had bitten the dust and had been reduced to scrap of Ebay as yet another 'unfinished project'. Well I am back!!!! And more importantly the old girl is now ready for her first MOT as an MX250!!!!

So what has been happening for the past 18 months or so????

Well the gazebo lasted for about 10 weeks and blew down in the first storm of 2017!!!!

Work went absolutely crazy with me taking over 2 new contracts etc etc etc. Over the winter of 16 / 17 I got very little done. Into the spring / summer of 17 I was back into it with a vengeance. I got the interior trimmed and the roof lining done (not easy but achieved over a long weekend).





Then I set about trimming and shaping the door shuts, making the rear inner arches and getting the rear mesh in:









So by the end of September she was ready for the paint shop, only 12 months behind schedule!!!!!!

Unfortunately I made the mistake of relying on a mate who owns a recovery company for getting her to the paint shop, and after waiting from our first agreed date of mid October until Feb for him to do me the favour I bit the bullet! I got the paint shop to lift the car and get started on prepping and painting.

The deal was, if I wasn't in a rush it would sit in a corner and whenever an apprentice was free they would work on it. And for this it would be done at cost. Good deal I thought. So by Easter I was obviously pushing but due to the bad weather over late winter early Spring in NI the shop had been busy and very little had been done to the car.

Long and short, in May I received the call to come and have a look an see if I was happy:







I think you would agree she was looking good!!!!

So at this point we were expecting delivery back to me at the end of May all put back together. If only!!!!!!!

The last weekend of June she finally came home, complete with a new windscreen (the old had some bad scratches) and the rear window bonded in:





Since then the rear lights have gone back in



I have re-glued the roof lining (it had dropped being baked in the oven), all trimmed round the rear window and doors, new interior bits fitted



New mirrors fitted



Front end put back together





And this afternoon I have been round to a mates workshop and the headlight alignment is done.

Roll on the MOT!!!!

I need to pick everyone's brains.........

She has developed a charging fault. When she is running the battery warning light doesn't go out. I have checked the main 80A fuse, all good. I have checked the battery, 11.5V not running, 14V when running so the alternator IS charging. However the battery light wont go out. I have removed the bulb from the instrument cluster for now, but would welcome any pointers.

Short on cable leading to battery light is only tangible explanation.

What material did you use for the inner arches BTW?

Great choice for mirrors as well. What are they?

Rear arch liners are made from 1mm hobby plastic. Any modeling or craft shop should do it.

Can't remember where I got them. Away for a few days but will check the garage when I get home, I think I kept the box. They are convex too so good vis past the rear arches.

No worries.

So as of 8 of the clock this evening my build is MOT'd, taxed, insured and ready for the Ulster Kit Car Show tomorrow.



She isn't quite finished (are they ever) but is legal. Things left to do:

She has to go back to the paint shop - some cracks / shrinkage have appeared.
Mesh and grille to go in the front end (after the paint shop re-visit).
Few Ferrari badges to go on - nothing over the top.
Boot to trim.

So 2 years later than originally planned tomorrow will be the maiden voyage!!!!!! Happy days!!!!

Well a cracking day out. The weather stayed dry - overcast but warm and dry, so a bonus. Here are a few pics:

A while since I have posted so thought I would give you an update.

After the close of the season last year the GTO had to go back to the pint shop, lots of cracking in the front panel above the air vents and around the headlights. Paint shop stood over it, reinforced the front end and fitted 3 braces from inside the bottom of the front end up to the bumper. She came home again in late November.

Due to impending winter she then went away to storage for the winter, plus we started on an extension in Feb and there was no way I was going to leave her on the drive with builders around.

In late April it came home and had a few Ferrari adornments added and the headlight covers. In my opinion it is looking good.

We have had a couple of runs out with the Ulster Kit Car Club and it certainly gets plenty of attention.
