Looks great and really nice lines and amazing progress as well. I see the fuel cap mirrors the z3's original placement, but is quite deeply recessed within the body - so (just out of curiosity, how feasible would it be to run an extension fuel line from the tank inlet to the top of the boot boot area - it looks like there's space in there...
We will be putting a couple of removeable blocks in the mould so the cap can be as shown in the original position or on the top of the rear wing a la AC. And yes there is enough room to run the pipe over the inner Z3 structure.
Hi guys, been following this project closely since I saw ad in eBay, I'm a cobra fan but where I'm from its rains a lot and this option is good as a daily driver. Probably a bit late now to give suggestions on design, there's no possibility on side exhaust? Is it possible to fit exhausts exits just in front of rear wheels and then modifying whole side exhaust for show, don't know if I explained myself properly.
Neemo - Yes, there will be a hardtop and other options later, but I cannot afford more time/expense on the project, and there would be just that involved in offering all the options from day one. I need to get some kits sold and out the door to re-coupe my investment so far. We will be taking deposits from this week, with delivery of the first kits in 4 weeks time.
Madasun - I like the look of the "shooting brake" Z3 but have you seen the price of them? There is room under the Z3 front wheel wells, I think, to do the sidepipes as the "HOT ROD" picture above shows, but there would be some clver pipework under the car needed. I personaly prefer that look to the chrome banana bunch pipes on most cobra's, but each to their own.
I'm not sure what value there is in providing a hard top option - the BMW standard soft top can presumably remain in place and AFAIK it's a good watertight roof (much better than most kit cars) and I think the AC Cobra is a much better looking car in its soft top format.
As a novice builder, I'd be more interested in being able to buy a complete kit - ie panels, brightwork, lights, mirrors, locks and electrical fittings all in one bundle with a view to being able to do the conversion quickly and without the hassle of sourcing parts that don't quite fit... But thats just my view.
I have been using my Z3 (Z300S Barchetta)with the standard soft top all winter long. The only issue I get it that it is a bit boomey with the roof up and side exit cherry bombs. Bearable for a commute from Southampton to Stevenage but a bit boomey.
The standard Z3 hardtops are not too difficult to get hold of but I´m not sure about the price. The Hamann hardtops look very good but have a price of around 3820 Eur. So a fastback Cobra hardtop option for this Kobra kit could be interesting, (if the price was right).

i think the fastback makes the design flow well
one thing to remember is the rarity of the BMW roof fitting brackets if using original mounting points
they go secondhand on ebay from 300-500 quid
I love it, never a big fan of fake snakes, like the idea of a modern concept car with reto looks though, would need to be badged as a Tribute and have modern led lights. Thought I was done with kits obviously not. I want one.
