The all new sammio spyder

Thats interesting Roadster ...don't think I have ever seen that before ...a mix of old and new with a bit of Space age thrown in !!

Oh ..and some Davecymru based bonnet hinges ....

Micky1Mo - No rush, but at some point could you take a photo underneath from a side on view that shows how low your exhaust sits compared to the chassis?

As it this photo, your pipes look like they are "tucked up" much closer to the chassis compared to mine.



I'm just curious, as I can't actually raise my pipes much higher now as the bodywork is in the way. :rolleyes:

I quite like the retro look this gives (even if I prefer the Jag's flat bottom edge) and it definitely would throw people off the kit car scent.

I think the Panhard Le Mans racers from the fifties had the perfect understated look: French blue, disc-type wheels, cookie-cutter grill, white roundels etc. The one you've found, Roadster, is a slightly different direction, but a very good one!

After nearly 2 years the new SAMMIO ALPHA is soon to be moulded and reproduced ready for market :roll:

It's a bit dusty from the workshop but the car started with a new battery and drove out.





Spent the weekend stripping it out ready for the trip to Chris at Tribute Automotive who will be doing all the mould work.





With it stripped out you can see just how much of the original donor is used in the build.



And it's got a practical boot area too. :biggrin1:

The first moulds will be the prototype to see how it is received as this build is a lot different from the normal build.
There will also be (at some time soon) a choice of bonnets this one and a Spyder style one!

If popular the Mk2 will have doors and possibly a re-worked area around the wind screen scuttle because by keeping the original wind screen not only will the build be easier, provide something to hang on to when getting in and out but will also go a long way towards supporting a roof !!!. Yes, a SAMMIO with a roof :eusa_whistle:

This mould is produced primarily for the Triumph Spitfire Mk4 but we have taken into consideration the possibility of stretching to the suit the Triumph Herald, 2CV ect but the build will be much like the original Sammio build of the past ie; bulkhead, supporting frame, work floor pans ect.

Up until now I have had a lot of casual inquires so I hope this will answer most question raised.
I will keep you all posted via this forum of the progress and start a thread on the first one I build. :roll:

PS, anyone got a Vitesse gearbox I desperately need one for the Bugatti build. :pray:

Good to see the project has been re-started ...good luck with the package , the new styling looks interesting ...

Have you thought about refreshing the Spyder moulds at all ...? That bodystyle still has plenty of life left in it IMHO , but the moulds are getting tired ...

lancelot link ;;Your right and although the Spyder body is still available the passage of time has left it's mark in more ways than one.

The refurbishment of the original Spyder's mould has always been on the "to do" list, simply because, IMHO, it has a classic timeless appearance .:icon_cool:

But it's a question of weather the investment will warrant the sales!!

Chris & Dan at Tribute have sent me an up-date on the progress so I'm passing it on :director:



Just look at the way that "round" wheel fits into the "round" wheel arch



The scuttle panel is separate part of the mould with a view to remodelling it to allowing the original wind screen to be left in place. Thus increasing the possibility of fitting a roof :eyebrows:



This area has been "straightened" making it easier to stretch the body to fit a Herald



The body is tailored to fit the original Spitfire bonnet shuts making it much easier to line-up the body tub.



All-in-all, I am very pleased with the progress and think it's coming along nicely.:eusa_clap::eusa_clap:

I think it's going to be to difficult to try and take a body to Stoneleigh :pray2: but failing that a completed car will be at Castle Combe in July.:jaw::banplease:

NICE TO SEE SOME PROGRESS ...The car has some potential ..there are aspects of it I really like and aspects that I'm not so keen on , but generally , its good to see another variation on the S*mmio theme ...

round wheel arches ....snigger , chortle ... MG did get it just right on their MGA's didn't they ? chuckle , lol etc.

I think getting a body to Stoneleigh that would be worthy of representing your kit is going to be nigh on impossible .....but Chris and Dan can pull it off if anyone can ...

We are planning on taking customer car number 1 to Castle Combe , so it will be interesting to see the two cars in close proximity ...

Body looks complete.



The bonnet had to be re-worked after I removed the scoop :doh:





If all goes to plan we'll collect the first body next week so it will soon be time to dig out the donor (that's been parked in the yard for over a year) and start the first conversion. :thumb:

Had an early start this morning for a trip to Poole to collect a few bits-and-pieces from Chris and Dan at TRIBUTE AUTOMOTIVE.



The main item being the first SAMMIO ALPHA body :director::rapture:









All looking good :dance:

The original buck is now surplus to requirement and although it has taken a beating during the moulding process but is still salvageable so will be for sale if anyone is interested.



The original car and the new ALPHA body can be viewed at Swindon, Wiltshire, SN2 2PN, we are 10 min from J16, M4. Just down the road from the McArthur Glen Outlet Village. :eusa_whistle:

New bodies look interesting ....... my buck for the F*rm*sa is in a landfill site somewhere local .......free to anyone who can find it !!!

Not much has happened at SAMMIO HQ. :eusa_whistle:

The SAMMIO ALPHA buck has had the "rattle can" treatment and has been useful in making a hard half tonneau cover. :biggrin1:







The finished cover will be available as an extra and can have a hinge through the centre like to BMW powered SAMMIO so it can be folded, enabling it to be stowed in the passenger's foot well when not in use.

As I intend to pull a SAMMIO behind my camper van I am going to make another half tonneau for the driver side.
Not for resale but when the two are fitted together they should add a little extra security when leaving the car unattended and also help keep out a lot of the bad weather.:biggrin1:

I see an aero hump has arrived, will that hinge to allow the boot to open?

The hump was just lying around so I tried it. To get it working with the boot lid I moved the hinges to the near side,



Also finished the other hard cockpit cover.



With the pair fitted (and a strap around the whole lot) I was able to leave the car outside over the weekend.
