Hi Axel, how is the project going?
I was just watching a series of youtube videos by Davide Cironi on a Countach replica being fitted with an Alfa V6/Audi transaxle combination. There are some interesting shots of the process even if lots of details are skipped over. My grasp of Italian isn't enough to understand much of what they are saying. They appear to have made the adaptor plate from layers of thin steel. The V6 is from a manual Alfa 166 2.0 V6 turbo.

Now it's time to introduce myself and show my project:
I live in Germany in Hamburg, and I have built two kitcars already, a Countach with spaceframe and Renault Alpine A310 suspension and engine and a Renault Alpine A110 speedster based on a shortened beetle chassis.
I sold both cars 2 years ago, and played around with Porsche 996, which never made me happy, so I sold this car too.
A polish guy here in Hamburg offers GT40 kits made in Poland for a competitive price, so I decided last year to drive to Poland to have a look. I saw a frame, and some bodyparts in quite a good quality, but I did not see a finished car or a complete body. Nevertheless I bought a "rolling chassis" with body to be delivered in october, and than the story began...
Anyway, I don't wanna tell to much about what has all happened, I picked the things up in Poland in october, and brought the stuff home.

I'm looking at building a 246 gt dino and was wondering what running gear/uprights / hubs have been used on your impressive build?

It is a GT40 chassis build in Poland and they copied the KVA frame and uprights...
I did not do any changes to the frame and uprights, I just build a scaled Dino 206 body to fit the GT40 chassis!
I have no pics from the frame at the moment, unfortunately...

Here you can see pics from the suspension, in the front a Ford Taunus (I think Cortina in UK) is used and in the rear it is Ford Granada/Scorpio with a custom upright made from steel.
Steering is also Ford Taunus.
My latest update: the body now is welded together which turned out to be a nightmare with the long weld seems and the heat being transfered to the thin metal sheets...a lot of filler will be needed, but I expected this...!
For those who are interested in welding, I used CuSi wire with Argon, the reason is that you work quicker and there is not so much heat transfered in the panels, the weld seam is non-corroding and has almost the strength of standard welds with wire/CO2.
But you need to practise, I am neither a welder nor a metalshaper, but I can live with the result.
One thing you realize is, welding works fine with panels who have a lot of shape- not much distorsion, but with flat panels with very little shape in them you'll get a lot of distorsion while welding them together...you need to take this into consideration when you plan your built and where to put the panels together...!
Now comes some difficult panels for the front, I am working out its face with headlights and the plexi cover for this needs a recessed surface.
I am trying to figure out how to do the recess with metal, my cutout in the frontwing is already too big, so I need to add some material...it would be so easy to do it with glass, but I want to keep the body 100% metal...
Here is the pieces I did for the headlight area with an offset, it has the benefit that I can use the cut out piece as a template for the plexi headlight cover...
and a corner for the front airintake- a lot of stretch in the flange:
and checking the symmetry, not to far off considering I did not use a wooden buck, it is all done by photos and 100% handbuilt..
Another part of the airintake, I used the same handtools to shape it. Something happened to the flat surface with the round flange but I solved it with shrinking to flatten it again.
Thanks guys, I wanted the front to be quite stiff so I have been using 1mm sheetmetal, the rest is 0.75mm... it is solid but not too heavy, I can push the car with two finger at the moment!
