Sounds excellent to me Mac! Once I get the car here, I'll write up a list of jobs and we can go from there.

That's a lovely idea, just sorting out transport for the car now.

I'd love to pitch in and help, but my work schedule is pretty inflexible. If you publish a list of spares needed I'll root around in my garage and send/bring anything I have that's on the list (foc of course).

IT'S GONE! Cordite #1 was transported to Ribble HQ this afternoon. Andy will cast his expert eye over it and no doubt declare it a total loss! Watch for a new thread from Andy coming soon. As usual, needs pictures, hope he is better at putting them on than I was.

From whst I've seen up to now, you've done a sterling job. I'll be writing a worksheet in the next few days ( and exploring the mysterious boxes that accompanied it )

Any chance this thread could be used for the updates, just to keep all of the build in one place?

Hi did the first Cordite get completed, I remember the idea to finish as a collective for Stoneleigh but havent been around to see how it went.

The car is coming to me over the next week or so (got to be out of Andy's unit by the end of the month) to be sorted out and made road worthy.
I have booked 2 weeks in October in which most of, if not all, the work will be done.
Simon will have a road worthy car by the end of October as I think he has waited long enough to get it done.

When done it will then return to Simon for the finishing touches.

My thanks to Mick for stepping in. As you can imagine it's not been number one on my list of things to do since December but it will be great to have a roadgoing car that I can tinker with when i get the time.

Simon - I hope things are going as well as can be expected for you and your children.

I'm glad that Mike is going to get your car on the road.

There's been a few unexpected events which have delayed me a few weeks but I'v been bashing away on Simon's car and it's on track for the end of this week eace:
I have actually managed to fit the original doors, they fit where they touch but look OK from a "step back" point-of-view and the open and shut with a reassuring clunk.
I used large bear claw door catches from CBS.





As per Simon's instruction I fitted "minimalistic" dash.



Just the fitting of the seats, get it running and a final check over for the MOT.

What approach are you taking for panelling the rear of the cockpit to sal off the petrol tank?
Not that i'm working on that area of mine atm and want to pilfer ideas you understand....

Mike, Thanks for all the work so far, it's looking like it will all be going soon. I'll be clearing the garage tomorrow for the triumphant return!

Dave, I think that will be down to me to do in the future. As you can see i'm going for a really 'stripped' look so I think it will probably be aluminium sheeting all around the inside. Or if that is to difficult / expensive then just some hardboard covered with vinyl

Mike - Well done on getting the doors sorted, we all know what a pain they are.

Simon - I had a brief look at your car when I popped into Mike's workshop the other day.

It was good to see how you had joined the body shell to the boot floor & see your bonnet hinges.

Finally got it running some where near right today

Hope to move it under it's own power in the morning followed by a trip to the MOT station later in this week

What has been nice is the more I speak to Simon the more enthusiastic he seems to be getting, I just hope he fits in the cockpit and is pleased with the results

I thought I'd come up with a unique approach to the door latch problem but it seems you got there first out:

Thought you where calling-in for tea, Paul L called-in the other day and he brought "Jaffa cakes".

Simon's car is now complete(if a little rough around the edges) and ready for the MOT.

The plan was to MOT Simon's car on the Thursday/Friday, do a bit of R&D work on the road on Saturday and have it sorted ready for collected on the Sunday

Well, it pi**ed down Thursday, ( Paul L, I now know how you feel ) so no go.

Transport driver rang and wanted to collect the car on Saturday so the car had to be MOTed on the Friday.

On Friday morning it was just spitting so off I went. And yes it pi**ed down all the way.
These little car get a few "looks" under normal driving conditions but stood in traffic when it's pi**ing down you get a whole new unseen expresion.

I arranged to leave the car there for MOT and, collect it when it was dry.
Then the transpot driver rang again and wanted to collect it that evening so I was yet again forced to collect it in the bl**dy rain.

On the good side it passed the MOT, on the bad side it still needs a little "setting-up" both carbs, I found the brakes a little soft and in my opinion the rear suspension needs work.
Hopefully Simon will be happy and now the rest is down to him

My workshop and conscience are now clear, I'v done what I said and on buget, just a few weeks late.

I'm Back!



A long time away but I now have the car back from Mick, with a fresh new MoT. I have sent all the paperwork off to the DVLA, and I hope that it will come back taxed and registered in a month or so. I even roughly sprayed it over in red, so as not to confuse the DVLA (the original spitfire was red).

I'm a bit rusty on the photo uploading so I hope this works...
