Quick question - DVLA man - is he likely to know that things may have 'dropped off' the car in between IVA and the inspection? Or in other words, can I take my ugly wing extensions off now?
Also, is there a minimum reflector spacing post IVA/SVA?
That was what I used to set out the lights and reflectors for the test, which states that you can't have your reflectors less than 600mm apart. I was planning on making up a number plate carrier which had the nice lucas replica reflectors I've got bolted to the bottom - but they wouldn't be 600mm apart...
They know nothing (Except where to look for engine numbers). But personally I wouldn't touch a thing until I had that Number Plate certificate in my hand....
I have an issue in that the stems on the new lights are further forward on the body of the light, which has the effect of moving the rear of the light back.
This means I can't position the light such that I can drill a hole in the top of the pocket to hang it from as the rear of the light hits the tub before the stem is under the body.
Right - on Monday, after the inspection - do I get a number plate certificate there and then, along with the tax disc I've paid for? Or do I have to wait for the log book to arrive in the post?
If you take along the correct forms, together with the payment (and MOT in my case) and are prepared to wait about 40 minutes, then they will issue you with the number plate form and tax disc there and then (well thats what happened at Bristol DVLA), although my trailer man wasn't too happy with the wait

PS A few bits had carelessly fallen off the car since the IVA but I didn't risk too many!! Its only a 5 minute inspection, they spend most of the time finding the engine number...
Right, well they already have all the correct paperwork (insurance and IAC for the tax), and I've already paid - I guess I'd better go and get a tax disc holder and fashion some front numberplate holders...
Looks like I shall be going for a inagaural run on Monday afternoon!

I know that feeling, my car looks a complete mess. Somehow worse than when I built it as there's bits of wire and stuff hanging off all over the place!
Quite disheartening....
Back from the inspection (well, been back for over an hour now, but I've been chatting to the trailer owner - he races a couple of vintage sports cars for fun )
It's all tickity boo - Will be getting an age related plate.
Bit disappointed (especially as the sun is out over here) that I couldn't get the paperwork there and then, but hey ho. Shouldn't be long coming from DVLA, and I'll spend the afternoon taking off all the ugly rubber crap I had to put on to get it though the test.
At Bristol if you paid upfront they would issue a tax disc and a form to get the plates made up on the spot. Seem like the offices are really consitent!
I've already paid for my tax and first reg. That's what miffed me a little - bit didn't really want to push it, as the inspector seemed (in the words of the trailer man) 'a bit of a jobs worth'
Now I think about it the same happened to me. I ended up getting about 3 days use from a month of tax. But the good news is that they were pretty prompt. The number plate certificate turned up within a week of my visit.
The trick is to already have made up the front mounting bracket otherwise that will delay you even more. As I don't have the Marlin "spoiler thingy" I made a U shaped bracket out of some small gauge steel angle and hung it off the steering rack mount. I haven't knocked it off yet.....

They where very reasonable, especially considering some of the telephone number quotes I got, and comparing it with the local breakdown rescue boys in town that wouldn't have had a covered trailer it was a no brainer.
