T, remember that if you put one colour coat on and spot some defects its not the end of the world, just fix the issues and put another coat on, sometimes it help to put a first coat on them stand back as the change in colour will hi lite things that you might have missed. I suffer from woods and trees syndrome sometimes when doing body work and a coat of paint can help me make up my mind as to whether or not the body is ready for full painting.
Well, funny you should say that, but this was what I saw in a Bridgend car park when I was nineteen -
The one I saw was a GP Spyder replica of the RSK 718 and I fell in love with it and the high gloss silver paint. It was the key moment that gave me the desire to build my own sports racing car, even though it turned out that I couldn't actually fit in the GP Spyder
But here I am, a mere thirty two years later and I've nearly finished my own version!
Well, that's most of today spent flatting back the paint with 1200 and 1500 wet 'n' dry.
I'm pleased with the results so far, my big worry was that I wouldn't end up with a shine, but I can already see it's going to polish up nicely.
I'm really glad I went for old fashioned cellulose as it's very easy to work with. I've never sprayed anything before so if I can get a half decent finish with it anyone can.
It's now ready for a few more topcoats tomorrow, then, if all goes to plan, more flatting, G3, G10 and a final polish on Tuesday.

Good point. Will probably have Tuesday off then. I'm back to work all day Wednesday and Thursday so I'll start the cutting and polishing on Friday.
Should be back on its wheels and outside in the sunshine by the middle of next week then...
Well, that's another significant milestone passed, I've finished spraying.
It's not perfect by any means, at least one strand of fluff managed to stick itself to the dash (it should sand out), but I'm very happy with the finish I've achieved considering my complete lack of experience and cheap diy compressor and gun.
As Phil J pointed out when he visited last week 'These are home built cars put together by amatuers, they're not going to be perfect.' If it polishes up nicely in a few days I'll be like a dog with two tails!
That looks just great! Well done. I'm very envious. I recall from previous cars I have played around with that bolting on the bright-work and accessories is monumentally rewarding. Do you have an item to bolt on that will mark the car as "finished"? Mine will be the wing mirrors.

Thanks Oxford, I'm very pleased with it. I hadn't thought about the last bit that signposts a finished car, but I guess it'll be the stick on front numberplate.
I was planning to have tomorrow off to do other stuff, but it's just too tempting to get on with the car, so I'll be refitting the exhaust and sorting out a bit of wiring for the lights instead. Who knows, next week I might actually get to drive the thing...
However, if you every do come across anyone who wants to find fault in the paint, feel free to simply ignore them as they will clearly be a k**b and unworthy of being in the presence of a man who has build his own car!
