After a total engine overhaul with lots off trouble the car is running great!
Still we have to practice some patience since it,s running the first 500 miles but it pulls good.
Today i received my proper registration with SAMMIO SPIDER printed on it!
During the build i tried to get info but the dutch DVLA didn,t answer on questions.
I feared lots of trouble getting the registration in Holland,during the build
I was warned for loosing my original registration and other horror.
Last week I went to the dutch DVLA to get the right registration.
After a very minimal check (mostly papers and numbers) I got what I
wanted:a new registration form with SAMMIO SPYDER on it!
I,m so glad that part is finished,now we can drive it with confidence.
Today we've builded the car back to our standards (other indicator lights, hubcaps etc) and painted the wheels. With the white paint the rims look a lot bigger. Now we're looking for some other tyres to make the wheels look even bigger.
We're happy the way it looks now and now finally time for some kilometers!
Finally we passed the 1000km run in period. While driving the 1000km we weren't happy with our windscreen (original window and the Brooklands windows). We've bought a MG Midget window and tried to fit it, but we didn't like the shape of it and the big frame. So we decided to make an higher original windscreen out of lexan which is 10cm higher then the original. Its far more comfortable to drive and it looks still period. This gonna be a good summer
(we don't have any windscreenwipers, but we think it will be allright )
The taller flyscreen looks great Jerome. Wouldn't pass the annual MOT inspection here though as it would need to be safety glass and have windscreen wipers if the driver's line of sight is below the top of the screen.
I was also surprised how much the Midget screen suited the lines of the car. I know it isn't as attractive as the curved screen you've gone with, but I'd say it wouldn't look out of place on a Spyder if it had adjustable side pillars so you could alter the angle at will - raked back for best visual effect and more upright for long distance protection from the elements.
The first S*mmio had a slightly re-worked M&W 550 screen fitted to it , this was tweaked on the later models to become the more familiar one they all had ...A 356 screen will fit a 550 , so , it's not unreasonable to think a 356 screen would be close to fitting a S*mmio . The bottom line is different , but if you created a channel in the cowl to accept the screen base and recessed it below the bodyline , it might just work out ok ....this gives you safety glass and a decent surface for wipers ...The Triumph wiper system is perfect for being modified in regards to position etc too ...so with a little effort , the cars could be converted ok ..
Funnily enough my Spyder screen is currently sitting on my 356 body while I make a few modifications to the Spyder bonnet, and it pretty much fits the Speedster straight 'out of the box' (I'll take a pic or two later).
That suggests that the 356 Speedster screen and frame would fit a Spyder without too much trouble and would look pretty good imho.
Martin and Walker have the complete screen assy with frame, seals, glass and side posts for £495 http://technic-motorsport.com/M&W%20Site/Speedster/speedster%20prices%20parts.html and I understand that they will sell them without the customer buying one of their bodies, but anyone know if they can be sourced cheaper elsewhere within the EU?
I think the taller screen is a nice touch and keeps a little more of the snow off.
This was a full size Spitfire screen on a modified SAMMIO body.
A little high perhaps but the photo's are misleading and as Gary says it could be lost under a higher bonnet.
We plan on doing a full screen modification for the new SAMMIO ALPHA.
There are a few reason for this, the main one is to assist with the fitting a roof making the car even more desirable .
