Andreas Mx250 Coupe build

4 Apr 2014, 7:20pm
As the new disc has a lot larger diameter, the caliper bracket needs a little grinding at the ends. I grinded away about 2mm...

This is the new rotor and the stock unit. Stock rotors are 18mm thick new, and corrado is 22mm. So i machined of 2mm at each side. Take care when doing this and dial it in carefully before start cutting, otherwise the brakes will pulsate as hell. I also drilled gas holes in the new discs, and a friend of mine phosphated them so they wont rust. The phosphate will come of the friction area.

Mounted and ready. Almost. I have ordered EBC Yellowstuff pads for front and rears too, very good track pads. Works fine with glowing brakes! New wheels with sticky toyo r888´s too. I will transform the rear brakes too. Awaiting new rotors, 276mm (ordered from germany) so will do rears in the coming week!

Cheers, Andreas!

Nice work, it always helps if you can stop when you're driving a home built car!

Can't believe the huge difference between the saucer sized 230mm discs and dinner plate 280's You can clearly see how much extra surface area, and subsequent ability to shed heat, that the bigger ones have. Keep up the good work.

Great brake mods. Kit is in transit, but still awaiting confirmation of delivery date.

Ah, that's the look.
Bet you had fun fairing that lot in :flock:

Looks just great Chris! Bet that if they allready picked it up, it should come shortly. Bet they don´t want to store it that long...

Been working on car this weekend. Job was to replace ecu with aftermarket, and choice was megasquirt that i bought second hand from a very nice guy (same as i bought the coilovers from). So had to fiddle a bit with it as it has been used on a NB miata with 1.8 litre engine with turbo. Wiring is totaly different, so there was some soldering done, but now it running just great! Also changed injectors to 450cc, as the engine might see some boost in the future!

Megasquirt up and running! Uses the stock harness, no need to cut stock wiring as it used OEM style connectors!

When doing this the very restrictive air flow meter can be deleted, as the MS uses MAP-sensor.

Got me some stuff from UK! Hanged it up with a couple of crews and some ducktape! Took it out to look at the lines of the car!

19 Apr 2014, 7:52pm
When i had it out i realized i needed to do something with the roofline, so i have marked it out with tape where to cut... It has been cut today and bonded together helpfully, just so i can take rear piece off and bond on inside. Unfortunally i couldnt take any picture as it got dark outside, will try tomorrow

19 Apr 2014, 7:54pm
Made a bar and some plates in grp for the flip to rest on. Also made the "forks" of tubing...

20 Apr 2014, 8:27pm
Today i ripped rear piece off from the car and layed the fiberglass on the inside.

The same time i moulded the fuelcap recess a la SeaNick!

It got really hot outside today, so i could mould the tail light recesses too. Also deleted the registrationplate recess.

Made the mould from my sons broken bucket... He was pretty happy with his new one!

20 Apr 2014, 8:31pm
Recess for bonnet locks...

back on again...

cap...

test fit...

20 Apr 2014, 8:33pm
Difference now and before straitening the roofline. Doesn´t look much on the picture, but makes a big difference in reality... I am very happy with it. Also shortened front clip about 15mm to get the arches more symmetric...

My fiancee really wanted me back up from the garage!

Yummy

More great work!! I lower roof line works really well. Your new boot lid will be sent this week.
21 Apr 2014, 7:57pm
Glad to hear you like it Chris!

Thats just great! Don´t forget the epoxi and perspex! I will need them really soon now! Thanks again! Your a great seller!

Todays work was to mould a new grille opening, took some influenses from aston martin. Used foam plastic (is it called that??) and cut it and sanded it out to make something to mould around. Protected it with packing tape.

Also moulded in light buckets for som extra highbeam lights. Will use 5" type from older golf or BMW. Used plastic flower pots

21 Apr 2014, 7:58pm
This is how i imagine it...:icon_wink: Also with perspex over both headlamps and extras

27 Apr 2014, 6:24pm
Today i slipped a bit with the grinder! As my car doesn´t have a slam panel, i thought :icon_idea: i could lower the top of the frontsection a bit to have a smoother transition. -Yes i know it it perfectly fine as is, but it´s just me, i guess i was made this way:shocked:

I made a "skelleton" of board pieces and foam plastic. Used hot glue gun to bond together

Packing tape so it will come of easy

Fibreglass layed. I am laying this "backwards", so i will have to sand it down, put some filler on and smooth it out. I will also have to sand it on the underside an add some more layers there.

The scoop has got some more presence...

The radiator has to be lowered a bit as well

Far from it. I salute your skills.

You have done a brilliant job there! The roof-line looks well balanced.

I can identify a bit with your thoughts, it is not so much the difference that is seen by others, as the satisfaction in your own mind that you have what you want!
It is definitely worth the effort, and your car car will look fabulous because of it, keep it up.

Looks very good. Have you taken the 2" slice out of the rear arches yet?
