I thought I was almost finished building cars, I'm now on to campervans stop with the temptation, I want one. (AC cobra style front hard top fast back ona Z3)

Having a read back to the start I see somebody has asked aboot removing the BMW windshield already, surely this is the way to go with this one,eh? I don't think the tall glass works well with this 1950/60's style. Although, with the depht of snow here in Canada maybe a good windshield, wipers, electric roof and AC would be a good idea? How cold is it in England?

I feel the best part of the tribute kits are so they are a simple 'bolt on' kit that the everyday joe bloggs can build and still retain the practicallity of a daily use car. start choping windcreans and that just puts it with all the other 'sunday driver' kit cars.
I want to be able to use the car any time i want, wind, rain, snow and then just pop the roof down on a sunny day!

I've got my own idea for this kit, seems though a more modern approach is going to be taken, I'm going to go with a more modern donor vehicle. I dont think it would take much modification and they do them in a nice 3.0l pushing 231bhp....

Does anyone know if this would be possible to to on a z4?

Obviously it looks like its already been done with my amazing photoshop (MS paint) skills!
But does any know if their is a void behind the wing to be able to add side exhaust?

I have never seen side exhausts on a Z4 but I suppose with a bit of work it could be done. Your idea looks interesting.

Here is a modern-style Cobra concept which looks as if they have used a Z4.
Its a Kicksterter project and its called the Pluritalia 427. Maybe you can get some ideas from this.

I am indeed! Going with the modern approach I just dont think the dated Z3 is right for the car. Yes they are cheap to buy and there are loads for sale but the interior is dated and the side triangle windows would look out of place.

The Z4 door is a much nicer 'rounded' shape and the windscreen rake looks a lot lower and more 'modern'

Saying that I'm not sure on the concept above as it looks too far away from what I think the Cobra should look like.

Danny - I wanted mine based on a Z4 too. Much better car but also more expensive and out of my budget :-(

Regarding having proper side pipes - I too was looking at this but it is difficult (on the Z3 at least).

I assume the Z4 front and will be similar so these pictures might help you decide how easy it will be to do. I can take lots more pictures if you want them. My car is down with Tribute this week but I should get it back on Saturday. Let me know if you want any better pictures.

So, could you cut a hole in that side panel or is that the footwell?

You can cut through the panel to get to the engine bay but there is 'stuff' between the exhaust manifolds and the side of the car.

On mine we kept the pipes running backwards along the centre of the car until after the second exhaust box(? the one before the final silencers) whic is positioned just in front of the rear wheels. We then turned the exhaust pipes sidways (slightly forwards actually) so the pipes stick out just in front of the wheel.

good pictures, i like the side exhausts on yours but they look a little low for me (and you with your scraping the floor issue!) so was hoping to have them higher. another option would be to maybe 'tap' the sill in to give more room and angle slightly upwards then out straight. then hide it with the sill/side skirt.

A little higher would be good. The pipes down the side aren't the lowest point on my car though, the Cherry Bomb silencers are :

I started the Z3 craze to stop hair dressers driving anywhere so it might catch on ;-)

Gives me shivers just to see that Bosch Pro angle grinder anywhere near a Z4 !

I suppose the body panels can be removed without too many problems as
there is a bodykit which converts a Z4 to a Z8, and they say its bolt-off, bolt-on.
