And seven years later I am still happily driving the Pembleton in between rebuilding my Marlin Roadster.
The Pembleton went in for its annual MOT recently, which it passed with flying colours, and while it was up on the ramps I noticed a problem with the rear spring hanger. The MOT man didn't notice so I didn't bring it to his attention....
To make a long story short it was very bent. Not only that but it had crimped the chassis member it was attached to and started to crack the weld. Oooo.... bent_hanger by Robin Martin, on Flickr

Good (well actually better) than new.
After some discussions with other owners it transpires this is a common problem, and later chassis had a similar gusset as standard.
Nice repair I'm still driving the Sportster around. I got some new 16" wheels for it and fresh rubber this year. The old ones had turned into a death trap when it was damp.
