Thought I'd let people know how i got on in my first attempt to book an inspection.
My nearest office is Boreham wood, where i went today to make arrangements. Firstly you have to take your car there, they do not come to you. Secondly, and what really surprised me; I got told the car should be complete!
Has anyone got recent experience of the process at Boreham Wood?
No experience at Boreham Wood I'm afraid, but mine went through at Peterborough no problem at all.
The car didn't need to be finished, so long as the body is attached and all the major components, engine, gearbox, axles etc. are fitted it shouldn't be a problem. Mine was at this stage -
As they've now done six or seven of these inspections at Peterborough it might be worth making the journey if the Boreham Wood tester doesn't know what he's doing

That is my nearest office too, so I guess we need to ask them nicely to talk to other offices as they clearly don't know what they are talking about.
I had the same problem at Borehamwood, even took pictures of all the other inspections people have posted on here of their inspections and suggested she spoke to the guy at the dvla where Gary had all his done, the woman at Borehamwood just said to me, "well take it there then"!

I have also been told (Sheffield Office) that the car needs to be complete. in fact, more than that it needs to have been MoT'd before the car can be inspected. Having looked throught all the stuff on the DVLA website, I think unfortunately that the Sheffield office is right and applying the rules correctly.
You need to be very careful with the classification you are checking on the dvla site as the majority of classification do need an mot, but a rebodied classic doesn't. The last time I read that site when I was doing mine I came to the same conclusion as you, but then I got pointed to the exact bit that concerns us and its all there that sammios don't need and not and don't need to be complete before inspection as all the inspection is doing is verifying the change of identity and for that all we need is the new body securely mounted. The main problem is that the site is a bit vague in places and I did wonder if that was on purpose!
Just don't ask me where to check as it was a long time ago, although if I remember right Gary pointed me in the right direction and I imaging Andy or Mike any also know the bit you need to refer to. Wasn't there a link to it on the old Sammio site?

The MOT station should rightly refuse to MOT a vehicle that obviously doesn't match the V5C, as a rebodied vehicle would.
The DVLA/VOSA as an organisation are a complete shambles.
I registered an electric motorcycle conversion and they asked for a reciept from the company that performed the conversion. I took a piece of paper from my bag and wrote one. I was then told I wasn't a company. 'Sole Trader' was my reply. They then insisted I had to be VAT registered and I asked to see the relevant regulation. Eventually they admited that no requirement existed and booked me an inspection because I was changing the tax class (fair enough). When I turned up at the inspection site I spent half an hour convincing the inspector that the long number starting DGM was NOT the frame number, but instead the type approval code for the model. This is a mistake they've been making on Italian bikes for about 30 years. Then as we were winding up I noticed he'd not actually confirmed on the form that it complied with the new tax class!
I find that Zen like patience combined with a complete refusal to move until the situation is sorted usually works.
This is the only part of the build, i dread! I won't even try my local centre. I'll have to hire transporter anyway, so will go to Peterborough or Poole...
