With regard to the name, you could tweak the MX5 part a bit to escape any wrath from Mazda. My other kit car is based on the MX5 designed by MEV over here in UK and is called an MEVX5 (See what they did )
Thank you for the suggestions. Sammio MX 5pyder is clever. Andy, I like your car. Looks real good.
My 16 year old son is a champion super bike powered Sprint Car Champion. He has been given the nick name by track announcers of "Johnny Lightning". I am thinking of naming the business: Lightning Kit Cars llc. And, calling the car the Sammio Thunderbolt. Not a 100% sure but I need to decide by Monday.
More "good news" today. I was notified that the freight company forgot to bill me for duties and other miscellaneous charges. So, another $225 dollars to be paid. This brings the total to well over $3000 for shipping. Good thing I love the Sammio.
The good news, they tell me to expect the body next week.
You really are patient
At one point i was considering doing the opposite to you and importing a Lambo shell from America but the time, cost and overall faff put me off!
LONG story I started doing an Extreme Murci then i switched to try and fit a Countach shell to the MR2. But the budget got out of control and i scrapped it and bit my losses. I was/am considering using some of the Lambo parts i do have, on the Sammio
Ah ok, I noticed somebody of the same name on the extreme owners club, thought that it was too much of a coincence. Extreme are building a murci for me at the moment. Lovely cars but don't have the charm of a Sammio!

Can we expect to see scissor doors and wheelie bin sized rear air scoops on your Spyder?
Still no body! Now I am being told delivery will be next week.
I made a final decision on my business and car model name. The business name is "Twister Kit Cars". I am calling the car the "Sammio Thunderbolt". The domain: www.twisterkitcars.com has been registered and the web site is being designed. Mark Fudge, the web designer that did Gary's site is setting up the website for me and is working on a logo for me. Exciting times. Now, where is my body?
Is the widened body exclusive to you?
I have found a good little MX5 over here in the uk for £600 which would make a great donor. Not sure if mrs worldclassaccident would be happy with me buying another donor car as I already have the scimitar and the TVR I originally bought.
Either way, I guess it depends on what you have agreed with Gary.
My agreement with Gary is to have the exclusive rights to market the body design in the USA. Nothing restricts Gary in anyway. My goal is for him to receive the credit and make a profit for his body design sold in the USA.
I think a kit for the Miata is a natural progression for Gary. Not that he has a lot of free time right now to develop a new kit!
My body has finally arrived! I uncrated it and set it over the Miata roller right off. Wow, a lot of work to do. It is going to take quite a bit of modification to get everything right. The one thing that was obvious right off is that with the body at the ride height that I wanted (5 inches) the engine sticks way up through the hood. (the engine was taller than the top of the front fenders!) Yes, I already have taken a cutting wheel to the bonnet and cut a big hole in it. To look right the body would have to be mounted 7 inches off of the ground. Like I said, a lot of work. I am going to sleep on it.
I tried to take pictures but the shutter wouldn't work on my camera. I'll work on that.
My website is almost complete. It will be up and running in a couple of days.
Hey guys, After receiving the Sammio body I have decided to go a different direction. I couldn't make it fit the Miata and still look the way that I wanted. If any one in the states wants to buy the Sammio body please email me at info@bigbellybanks.com
Here is the project that I am going with. Same Miata donor concept.
I like your new design it's a nice spin on a TVR and an XK180. I _very_ nearly opted for one of the XK180 kits from http://www.xk180.com before i went with the Sammio, but i just wasn't confident enough in my welding at the time to pull it off. One day maybe......
Shame you couldn't make it work. I'm surprised you didn't just abandon the Mazda donor, build a space-frame and run whatever engine and transmission you could fit under the hood after all the time, effort and, presumably green-backs you've invested in the project.
That sure is a nice looking modern interpretation of the open roadster though and I wish you all the best with your new venture.
Oh, and I've just read up on the XK180 rebody for the XJS/XK8. Nice idea and a great looking car but £8,350 (plus vat?) for the kit without trim, plus the cost of a donor. I'd reckon on a build cost of at least £20k, which is a bit steep for my pockets I'm afraid when I could build another four Sammios for that. Now there's a thought...
