Just noticed this reading back through the thread. Although you’re right that only later cars had galv from new, many have been replaced by owners (and some apparently by the factory) and you can obviously see that this one IS galv

Another thing to bare in mind is that just because it's galvanised doesn't mean it will automatically be ok! The chassis on my rickman is galvanised but had rusted through (it would appear from inside out) in one place (it is about 30 years old though!) The other thing is that it's a pig to weld once it's been galvanised - lots of grinding the surface, and still it spat all the time I was welding it. Prior to my welding it the MOT man got out his tape measure and said "it's ok as it's over 30cm from spring attachment", but I suspect he would have failed it otherwise, even though it's only a chassis outrigger with GRP body sitting (it not bolted at that point) to it - the main chassis rails do the 'work'. He then proceeded to break off my gear level because he didn't know to push the lever down to get it in reverse! Cue an hour removing it, him MIG welding it and me bolting it back. His weld only penetrated 2mm as evidenced when the lever broke again 2 days later
I arc welded it and then heated it red to stress relieve and it's lasted 2 years -Ooer I've done it now haven't I

We have been hanging on to this build waiting for the new style bonnet but have just lost the use of our lock-up so this now needs a new home.





It needs paint ,boot and interior trim.
It will be sold with a new MOT and be registered correctly with DVLA.
Looking for £4,000 as it stands or £6,500 with paint and trim.

This is a unique build, there's nothing like this on the road.
This build thread will provide most of the information a buyer might need.

The car passed it's MOT today!

Amazingly this car has been in the workshop and done no miles since it's last MOT in April last year.

It obviously need new petrol, new battery and some TLC to get it running.
But, to pass a new MOT it needed hand brake cable, new rear shoes, new rear wheel cylinder, swivel gators, a steering column brace and several new bulbs !!

Just goes to show these car have to be driven to keep them running and in good health.

I ironically it's now going to be striped and prepared ready for paint while waiting for the great DVLA to do it's work!!

Mike - What colour are you going for?

Given the more modern rolling chassis, engine & gearbox, I really think you should be asking for more money.

Especially if you think this provides a great drive.

Hi Paul L., you might be right, but at present the market is quite!.
I wanted to go Honda grey with black decals and black wire wheel with chrome spinners !!
But a customer in France has expressed an interested in a red one so it's going red !!

The rear light are from a Morris Minor.
I reshaped the chrome base plate to fit the body lines and inset a mini indicator into the original lens.

I will also redo the now out-of-place rear number plate/fog light.

We refitted the original Reliant SS1 carpets and even though the cockpit floor has been lowered they didn't fit to badly.







Thanks to "Scim Jim" we now have a spare set of carpets so will be cutting them up to cover the cockpit sides.

We supply the seats @ £40 each.
Right now we are getting a quote for and will soon be supplying a loose fitting cover for the same seat. .

It's taken a while but it's finally in the paint booth ready for the first coat of primer.

Now we have got the bits and pieces in paint.

Also good progress on the Rat Rod Pick up too.

Bonnet stays or props are a essential part of most cars but can some times be a real pain when it come to fixing them in place.
Usually the wind or a wrong move dis-lodges them and you end up getting "eaten" by the falling bonnet.


I fixed a bonnet stay on this car in the normal way.
Stows flat along the bulkhead.



Hinges up to support the bonnet.



Except this stay goes through the hole in the bonnet used for the bonnet fixing pins.
This makes for a very steady fix and as this stay has a hole drilled in the end the fixed bonnet pin slide through it and makes a very secure fixing which will not fail until the pin is pulled.



Not quite as good as my seat belt stay but it's simple, it works and I sure somebody else will borrow the idea at some point!
