Fixing last problems on body :
- Widening rear fenders (standard body is too narrow for wire wheels for 2CV)
- front fenders are curved inwards
- hood needed adjustment of the curve in order to follow the headboard curve
- roundness of wheel arches
And also constructed and fitted the scoop - made from the mould which I borrowed from Michiel which was his wife's vase I believe..
I was pleased with the result. The scoop was needed as I would not be able to close the bonnet..

Some further serious modifications were needed to get a straight and solid bonnet.This needed to be done by a pro and he braced the bonnet very good and it feels very solid now. did add a few kg's...
He mounted the bonnet on the body and completely filled the gap and recut it in a very straight way.
Again also much filler necessary for straightening sides..

When the first coats of matt black were applied I started to doubt the color I had chosen and maybe I just should leave it that way... it looked fantastic and also the body was super straight.

could not have imagined that the bodyshop was able to get such a great smooth and straight finish.

Back in my garage I finally could start on the last jobs.
Still plenty of work to do - basically the whole interior had to be installed.
Also some electrical work still needs to be done as the turn signals do not yet work..
But it is really coming together and I'm very please with the color. My wife warned me not to paint it "midlife crisis red" and she was pleased to see this sort of 50ties era dark red.
I used a rubber profile (normally used on stairs steps) for the cockpit edges and mounted most of the chrome pieces.
I made a new grill from aluminum(which I still have to cut to size and install) which weighs less then half of the "doormat" that was provided originally with the kit.
Also had to paint the inside of the wheel arches and many other small jobs:
- Had a steering wheel adapter made for better steering position
- relocate the exhaust mounting point at the rear
- Test fit of first decalls
- mount the wire wheel adapters and wheels
- install anti roll bar on the rear
still lots of stuff to do before it is roadworthy..

Here are the last pictures, taken last week before I went on vacation. Sorry but I just can't make 'm bigger. One size bigger and they go over the allowed max size. Must be a MAC problem..

Pininfarina was body supplier /designer of the original Lancia D24 on which the Sammio design was based on and decided to use their badge
I have some roundels with the number 77 as this was the body number Gary Janes told me it is.
I'm not sure if I want to put them on as the car looks nice as is..
One last (major) issue to sort is the possibility of the wheels touching the inner wheel arches. i have already mounted an anti sway bar and stiffer springs but I want to keep the car as low as possible so need to find a ride height that will not give these problems. Maybe I will i have to come up with some sort of mechanical stop on the maximum sway of the suspension arm.
Before the car went to the paint shop I ran it and one of the wheels touched the wheel arch and need to prevent this from happening again.
I will keep you posted on further progress, I do expect to still ride it this summer.
You know I am a great fan of the 2CV and a 2cv in this "dress"is irresistible for me.
So when you are back,come and drive with the few other dutch Sammio,s and have some fun.
Fantastic job Marcel, the paint finish looks superb, the time spent on the body prep has certainly been worth it.
I've also been through the cut and shut problem with the standard body misalignment alignment but when corrected makes a big difference to the overall look of the car, well done and who knows you may be over in the UK at a show and we may meet up.
IF you arent going to use the roundalls , how about just contrasting colour numbers on the vehicle without the roundal backing ? would not detract from the paint but still give the car a heritage feel.
Hereby a little video I have made recently. The car is running well, and expect it to pass MOT so I can start driving it this spring. Then I will make some go pro videos as well to get some real action videos.
