Hi Chris,

Would the mistral fit the locost chassis?
Front overhang (from outer tyre) = 0 inches
Wheelbase = 93 inches
Front wheel centre to dash = 45 inches
Bulkhead to centre of rear wheel = 2 inches
Rear overhang (from outer tyre) = 10 inches
Width 58 inches

Cheers

Mathew

Hi Mathew

Really sorry that I haven't answered via ebay etc, very busy getting WCA's car ready for Exeter, but found the time today to put a customers untrimmed Mistral front and rear ends over my very rusty Robin Hood chassis. It has a 98" wheelbase, not 93" .....

and the engine that is just chucked in doesn't allow the flip front to sit at the correct level......

but it should give you an idea that the shell will work on your chassis

As "striker1660" says, 3" will need to be added to the rear of the bonnet, which is no problem for us to do at the lamination stage.

Thanks chris. It looks good. I will give you a call next week.

Excellent .. this chassis next then :-)

96" wheelbase worst case.

Yup it's the Dermot chassis and he kindly got the tape measure out - it's pretty close.

Being delivered to Jo White to make up new front wishbones for a pair of Formula Ford uprights. Ford English axle is in the back of the 4x4.

1600 Crossflow engine and 2000e gearbox in the kids Wendy House ...

Just need Chris to work out how to stretch the Mistral a little bit ... but I have to tell him the wheelbase first.

Got some ideas on how to join the bits up ... based on the Clubmans car

Wrong forum :-) Finished the Clubmans but can I have a screen please :-) ?

it's a bit floppy! (tracing paper template)

Really should have bought a Mistral shell, rather than trying a scratch build in a single garage!

Ah well.

So I think the good thing about trying to combine the Mistral shell with my unknown unidentified race chassis is the mechanics will be no different to any of the Lotus 7 style chassis including the Locost.

Will post an update once the wheelbase is known and Chris has had a look to see what's what.

Should be weeks not months ... famous last words !

Well I suppose you can adjust the wheelbase by altering the trailing arm length and also a small bit by the front wishbones, but that of course my affect the steering geometry (and who knows if that is correct or not!!)

Good luck

Chris

Headlights and small bonnet hatch please !!

When i have the funds, i want a jomar (mistral) with a roof!

So had a first look at the chassis in the flesh and got a tape measure out.

Wheelbase length is 90" with an Ford English axle wheelbase width at about 57" so looks like we just need to narrow the chassis at the rear a little ...

I think a flat floor, and flat front and rear bulkheads should be straightforward.

Chassis is booked in the for the end of this month then down to Chris for a first fit ...

This project looks great Electron.

Do you know if Tribute offer the kit with headlights? I'd like to fit to my Tiger Avon chassis if possible, i'm thinking it could be made IVA friendly.

He'd be able to fibreglass in some of the A352 pods easily if you asked!
19 Dec 2013, 1:48pm
Good point, I'll ask when I have the money ready.

Ifanyone is intersted in the blue one on previous pages i.e Mistral mk2 body with side intakes then it's available. Due to a change in project and lack of space i need to shift the bodyshell. It's an original sheel, one piece type but quite rigis as extra stifferners were bonded. So if anyone is intereste dpleas e mail. I would love to keep but space is at a premium with a single garage.

Can't get the pictures of your Mistral shell trail fitted to chassis loaded up for some reason, but it was a suprisingly good fit wasn't it!
